That would seem to be a realistic way to view the whole thing!

Why do i think you are very much correct .No MOD no fly no season no income .We have all been here before several times .but this time has the we need money now ploy failed this time .I jus tlooked on the TVOC site at the results totaliser and it has not moved for 2 days it should have been updated yesterday but was not .

I'm guessing there's not much to update.

Either that or they've all buggered off

probably off to some despot country to learn how to pull off a coup!

It is a particularly nasty catch 22 situation for them to be in, one that i certainly see no way out of unless there is a fairly hefty cash injection fairly soon, I wonder at what time is the decision weather to pull the plug or not is made?

BUT, it is a CATCH 22 situation largely of their own making!!!!!!!

Don't mention the C word, ;) you have to talk in code or folk on the other side think we are all lottery winners and get the wrong idea

I used to use the C word regularly, but some of the more fragile members of this forum were starting to complain!

I'm awaiting Pat or Taff or someone to fill
in these engineering blanks.....

It was my understanding that the leg was
already paid for and just needed finishing
and reinstallation.

As far as the wing mod, I thought the
design part was done and it was just the
doing of it that was needed. Time consuming,
yes, but not six months worth by any means....
That element, though, has not yet been
covered financially, I don't think.

As this MOD needing to be done on 558 has allways been know about and given the fact that it is a MOD that has been done on other Vulcans during service. It has been puzzling me since one of the last updates, but why does it appear that they are only now deciding to start getting the MOD design drawings produced and embodiment procedure to be written, surely knowing this was coming before 558 was back in the air and as an existing MOD should'nt the drawings and procedure to implement the MOD allready have been in place somewhere and all that is needed is to have the additional parts made if the MOD parts are not still sat there in a store somewhere.

And if this wing spar MOD was going to be originally done during the winter servicing of 10/11, would they have waited until Dec 10/Jan 11 to then start looking for the MOD leaflets/Drawings.

Just some idle thoughts from an ardent supporter of the engineers/aircrew and club peeps who would still love to see 558 fly and is still donating and still helping when can, the last bit is so I don't get accused of being N******* , wanting some soup, sorry a coup, or wanting the project to fail X( :D :D

Mick I don't think this mod was ever embodied on any Vulcans therefore although it was in the wings [excuse the pun :p ] I don't believe any paperwork was ever drawn up.

...So when you factor in design, approval manufacturing of said part, fitting part ( plus any alterations) it can quite easily amount to 6 months.

Thanks Pam, I just thought I remembered some conversations I had with some of the guys before first flight and on the VTSC forum at some time in the past discussing this and there was some digging to find out if 558 had had the MOD emobodied when at St Athan on a Major servicing, it turned out they did not bother as 558 was not deemed important enough to do that before it went out of service (also the MOD had no money), but I thought some had had it done, but I will bow to those more knowledgeable as my memory is not as good as it used to be on these sort of things :( .

It was a mute point anyway as it is obvious that there is nothing in place for 558 from what Dr P wrote in one of those last updates, I just thought that knowing about it way back when, it would not have been left to the last minute to start organising/planning for it, oh bum just realised what I wrote there ;)

Must be time to go back to lurking it is safer, but I unfortunately ponder on something that has been said/written for a while, then think of something and cannot resist posting the odd thought, but only in the interest of trying to be proactive rather than distructive thats the problem being in Quality :( .

I may be wrong Mick - always willing to admit to that, but my understand is it was decided the vulcans would go out of service so they didn't draw up the paperwork.

now where FFM when you need him :p

Hi all.

I think most of the Vulcan fleet flew about 5,500 hrs on average.XM655 has about 5,500 hrs on her airframe but 558 has about 6,500 hrs. :D

cc.

OR, you are remembering the conversation correctly, but it referred to a different mod.

AFAIK, mods were proposed for both rear spar and main spar. The rear spar mod was designed and fitted to some a/c in service. 558 didn't get it at that time, but it was fitted during the work to return her to flight. No a/c in service reached enough hours to need the main spar mod, so it was never designed. 558 has now reached that point.

May be inaccurate on some of the details, but I think that is the overall picture.

Thanks sooty655, so memory not as bad as I thought, cheers again Pam your memory about this current MOD was correct.

But even with that info, that requirement was not just realised in December 09, it was known that it would be needed sometime in the future so why not drip feed tenders for the various MOD requirements. It still appears that no forward planning was done, it is all firefighting last minute pressure planning everytime, living on a knife edge and then at the last minute apply pressure to people to get things done in short order is not good for a business or for the employees health and sanity.

But no doubt someone will hopefully tell me that I have percieved the situation incorrectly and give the facts so we can all stop getting worried that we might not see 558 until later this year, if at all.

Aaargh I have done it again, must stop logging in, I am in danger of ending up in the doghouse for not being positive :D

Have a nice day peeps, regards Mick

Mick, unfortunately you seem to have a very good understanding of the situation, this is a major part of why some of us have been calling for resignations! :ymapplause:
