[Mrs. Brigadier] staged one of her smart double-barrelled luncheon parties yesterday. One of the guests was our neighbour ****, unaccompanied by her husband, who, though perfectly normal and pleasant in every other way, has a passion for motor cars - apparently there was something more interesting than our party going on at Goodwood.
[She] arrived full of the news that her husband had just rung her in an excited, indeed emotional state, to say that there had been a Vulcan flight. Did I mention [her] surname? ............... [The] grandfather invented aeroplanes or something, and his firm produced the Vulcan?? Anyway, [he] was very chuffed about it.
(typical Brigadier dry humour!
)my Brigadier friend popped in today for a cuppa, bringing a postcard of thanks (for the nosh up) - this one...

the description is as follows:
Alliott Verdon Roe by the AVRO Arches on Walthamstow Marshes preparing the AVROPLANE in 1909 for flight trials.
my friend's lunch guest's surname is Verdon Roe - her husband is none other than the grandson of A V Roe!
interesting! my mind is now going at 200mph to see if i can develop 'things' for 558's benefit
