VC10 - XR808

Postby Exceptionalsleeper » Thu Jul 25, 2013 12:21 am

BOB isn't going to Cosford now http://www.vc10.net/news.html, the man there he say no! Gutted! After 47 years sterling service the RAF can't accommodate another marvel of British engineering! Luckily we have the likes of Mr. Walton to thank!

Sad times!

BOB is a legend, I flew and fixed the grumpy old git up many times! I remember one particular Good Friday 2002 when concluding the Minor servicing I was setting the spoilers/speedbrake system up. This could be a devil of a job when it went wrong - chasing your arse but, if you're lucky they'd fall in pretty quickly. Anyhow, we did a 18 hour day that day to trying to get the damn spoilers to raise together and sit in their beds correctly - if it could go wrong that day it did. After plenty of head scratching, several spoiler jack replacements and a let down valve he still failed to play ball, just wasn't having it. It got to something like 0130hrs on the Saturday morning and we gave up and headed home. We came back the next day, ran the hydraulics up and they where perfect. That was moody BOB, he had his own personality and could be a right mardy sod! He was and still is my favourite VC10!

'BoB' is safely down at Brunty.

Fast taxi runs are rapidly becoming far more fun than airshows. Brunty is the place to see noisy aircraft up close and will be even better if 558 ends up there.

BTW If you want to get very close to a noisy Vulcan then Wellesbourne Mountford is the place to be.
