Cadet Diorama

Postby Hula-Hoop » Tue Jan 29, 2013 6:55 pm

Evening all,
At my Air cadet squadron we have our wing field day coming up in July and one of the events I have been chosen to participate in is the Model Diorama. The brief for this year is a 1/72 Chipmunk at one of its AEF bases. I was just wondering if anybody on IA had worked with or flown with the chipmunks when they were in service. Our prediction is that many squadrons in our Wing will do RAF Cranwell. So far the best idea I have at the moment is to do a diorama of one being dragged out of the Hangar. ~x(

So if anyone has any pictures or details of the Chipmunks when they were in service it would be a great help if they would send them to me. Photos of what the airfield was like or any stories of what would go on during the average day of preparing a Chipmunk for flight would be of great help to me and my squadron. :)

Cheers Mike.

So then, red and white, gloss black or the nice grey and dayglo RN version! ;)

The BLACK BBMF version will be far easier to paint, no straight demarcation lines and white is notoriously difficult to get a good finish with! [-x

H-H jnr. I was at the Tri-Service 'photocall' at Middle Wallop when the Chippy was finally retired. I am starting a search even as I type this.

Fingers crossed ;)

EDIT: However I might not have (yet) scanned these shots from Middle Wallop.

MOD you have an exceptional collection of photos their. Other than station photo departments I don't think I have ever seen a collection like this before. Many thanks for an insight into the collection. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Thank you very much, I have just noticed that in the Brief it HAS to be one form an AEF Squadron so Im afraid it is going to have to be a Red and White one. Thank you for the photos though! :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
