HARRIER bows out!

Postby Xplumberlives » Sun Dec 12, 2010 6:16 pm

Looking at the weather for the coming week, Wednesday the 15th looks to be the best option for the 16 ship Harrier formation! :ymapplause:

I will post any details I can glean from my spies! ;)

Just changed my physio appt from Wednesday to tomorrow. ;) Weather forecast on Countryfile looks a bit chilly with a chance of driving snow. :(

Dave are there any cheap B+Bs near Cottesmore?

I hope to make this one, although it is a 3 to 4 hour drive. :(

Are details as for last week?

Any plan B in case of parking problems?

It is not an area I know so can someone save me a parking space? :D
I'd rather be skiing

There have been 2 parking areas set aside - one is a camp site the other a field, both for a small parking fee of either £1 or £2. There will also be some one way routing on certain roads.

Any chance of a link to the parking locations? :)

The most concise info I can find is here on Damien Bs site

http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/spotting/cottesmore.php

I have also read somewhere that access to crash gate 1 will be for people who have Cottesmore passes only - however I have no idea where crash gate 1 is or if it is anywhere near where most of you would hope to view.. again please don't shoot the messenger :)

Here are the BASICS;

Parking for the flypast days: RAF Cottesmore's community relations office is reportedly concerned about people descending en masse to view the flypast at Cottesmore and want people to view it from the other airfields instead. Parking restrictions and a one way system on Hooby Lane will supposedly be in force. Parking will be available for £1 per car at the Rutland Caravan and Camping Site, which is around 1 mile (15 minutes walk) from point A on the map below; the farmer at the 22 end has also said his yard will be available for some parking for £2 per car (accessible via New Road). This is a lot closer to the runway end than the caravan site. Both parking locations are marked with a blue and white P on the map below.

Go for Brian Elsens yard as the favourite but don't be late, it will fill up fast! ;) ;) ;)

Still can't decide whether to go in or not! :-o

It's the Town that RAF Cottesmore has the freedom of and Stamford is the Town that RAF Wittering has the freedom of. :D

If anyone wants to keep me company I'll be at Coningsby, no point even suggesting going to Cottesmore again :))

Anyway, much more appropriate for me to go to CBY, seeing as I've spent almost every wednesday there for the last 4 years =))

I'm in 2 minds whether to go to Coningsby or Waddington - I find Waddo has the clearer view - that bloody chain link fence gets in the way at Coningsby and Waddo generally has less spotters & now that some car parking has been sorted for Cottesmore I hope it remain fairly quite

That reminds me, just a note about the mound at Coningsby, Farmer has or had blocked off the track that leads down to it, this was last thursday so I don't know if the big wooden crate has been moved since then, but you couldn't get down the track when we past by, not to mention the 2 foot of snow there are well =))
