For the £2 text donation for the Reds Scooter Challenge it stated that at least £1.70 would go to the charities..

40% to the Mobile company sounds very high to me.

Plus the fact that I'd rather have 60% of something rather than 100% of nothing :p ;)

PA28 was working on a reduced fee earlier in the year and I don't know the outcome of that, but 40%'s around the figure the fees amounted to with the 2009 set up.

Anyone know what happened to the idea of selling spare hardware on ebay to make some money?

It was supposed to start on 11th October. The page is still there on the VTST website, but when you click the link it takes you to an ebay page with nothing for sale, and the seller history only lists the eight items on the original sample list from September. :-?

Well, that is certainly a lot more encouraging than the link from the website. :ymapplause:

It's such a shame they don't seem to be able to keep these things up-to-date. Anyone clicking the official link might well assume they have given up. ~x(

I'm intrigued by the mention of something really special for next year.

I we knew what it was then surely if people thought 'WOW that's really fantastic' they would stump up some cash now.

The mere possibility of 'something special' don't fire me with enthusiasm to dip into me pocket.

I've loved 558 for years but for me to become really enthusiastic about her again they will need to do something really different next year......

It was lovely to see her her at Waddington but the display was very tame, not surprising really seeing as the aircrew only got her 2 days before but at the end of the day if the public doesn't feel they get value for money & personally I don't think Waddington did, then a slow response to the appeal is hardly surprising..

I find this a really tricky one! Personally, I rather liked the display at Waddo this year (I was only there on Sat). Slower and more graceful than in 2009 and the low dirty pass and climb out to compensate for the lack of landing was a nice touch IMO. However, the problem the Trust will always have is that most airshow attendees over the age of 25ish remember the VDF displays and those even older the in-service period displays, all of which were hugely more impressive than the current offering. No matter how much we're told about fatigue and engine cycle conservation, the comparison will always be there - the displays are shadows of their former selves. Watch one of PlanesTV's recent dvds back-to-back with 'Salute the Vulcan' to see what I mean...

Nobody expects PA474 to be thrown around and she's presented in a dignified manner (and always has been as far as I recall) and there are certain similarities with '558's routine (wonder why?!). But people know what '558 can do, which can result in a somewhat hollow feeling.

I think there are three factors affecting the appeal:

1. The deja vu factor (appeal weariness)
2. Timing - people I speak to are as concerned now for their livelihoods as they have been at any stage during the current econimic cycle and are expecting really tough times ahead. For them, Vulcan is a luxury that they cannot / will not afford
3. Familiarity - people have seen Vulcan for 3 years and are moving on to other things. This is where I agree with MF, as attention needs to be grabbed and held - '558 needs the 'wow' factor. Her presence is awe inspiring, but that 'hollow' feeling brought on by comparison with what used to be (as noted above) needs to be addressed somehow IMO.

I was speaking with someone from the club recently and he said the biggest problem now is the "Well, I've seen it now" attitude from the majority of people. I'm one of them. The whole reason I gave as much as I did was because I'd never seen a vulcan fly. I have now.

Now I'm saving up to see an SR-71 fly!!

Wish me luck!! ;)

Actually Gully I was comparing Waddingtons display with what other venues got - not surprising when you consider the aircrew had only flown her for the first time in 9 months 2 days prior it felt cautious .......but the biggest disappointment was the decision not to land her, especially as it's one of the few venues she attends that has a long enough runway, the take off & landing is far more entertaining to me than the display it'self..

but whatever the reasons or wherefores, the days of being complacent because she is 'The Vulcan' - has gone [again IMHO]

I have only seen the Vulcan display in 2010 (at Waddington on the Saturday), so have no previous displays to compare it to. I do not remember the VDF displays. It was a pity that she didn't land, or was based there. :( :( Hope she will fly next year, and take-off and land at the RAF Waddington airshow.
