All major components are lifed either by time or use - and over 50 odd years of flying things get changed for various reasons - at some point the port undercarriage was obviously changed for another that had had more retractions and landings. It was known from the start a rebuild was required.

As M.F. has said the three legs are out of sync with each other and the port leg had reached the end of it's prescribed life.

Oh b****r!! Never thought of that, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, what will happen when they want us to follow the bloody book:-o :-o

I think I need to lie down in a very dark corner to deal with that one, the possibilities of endless inane questions is quite terrifying! :(( :(( =))

You seem surprised, DB. Didn't anyone tell you TVOC were instrumental in producing it? :-o

Frankly mate thankfully no, been to busy to help this winter. But then folk know I am but a grumpy ex-Chief Tech engineer and only interested in actually doing the work of making the Vulcan fly. My reply to a question such as: "would you like to produce a draft manual for aircraft enthusiasts to study, so they can misinterpret it and challenge everything the engineers do", would have made a chat with Ozzie Osbourn seem like a prayer meeting!! =)) =))

I hope you're sitting down as you read this, DB, because it might come as an awful shock. :-o

You may well think that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but as you are actually IN the Haynes manual, in all your glory and full colour, perhaps you should ask your agent why you aren't getting commission on that little knowledge. :)) :))
