French Concorde Engine Runs?

Postby Checkflaps » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:27 am

Saw this over on the well known 'rumour' site and thought I would share it here. If it is true, excellent and I'm sure there is now a little puddle on the floor of a certain stumpy mans house in Dorset :-o

Concorde's Engines To Be Brought Back To Life

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not a question of if anymore, but when - for the first time since Concorde's retirement back in 2003, her engines will be bursting back to life.

Following a recent meeting earlier this week at the Le Bourget Air and Space Museum in France, with our French alliance counterparts, known as Olympus593, negotiations were finalised and agreed that the engines of former Air France Concorde, known as "Sierra Delta" will be powered up.

Ben Lord, Vice Chairman, said: "This is absolutely fantastic news and very exciting. We have always maintained, with the benefit of our experienced engineers, that Concorde could have their engines restarted and this has been proven thanks to the shared belief that our colleagues in France have. Furthermore, this brings us a step further to the possibility of Concorde being returned to the skies in our proposed heritage capacity. Having previously been told in so many directions that none of this was possible, our thoughts all along that where there is the will, there will always be a way to success has been proven."

This latest major development has been made thanks to the excellent advantages our colleagues across the Channel have over us in the UK - largely down to the museum in France owning their airframe. Given this support within France, which is combined with that of our support network here in the UK, it is highly probable that this French Concorde, could be the first of the original airframes to once again become an aircraft and not a technological relic. Perhaps the ability to perform a ground taxi, or who knows, even one day to fly would be the next possible stages. SCG is using all their resources to assist Olympus 593 and the team in France at this point and this is moving almost supersonically. The possibility to hear those fine engines from Rolls-Royce fire up again will be simply magical.

In an ironic twist, this major development gives further weight to the distinct possibility that Concorde could feature in the opening ceremony of the greatest event on the planet - the 2012 London Olympics.

Whilst efforts to return one of the British Airways Concorde's to the skies goes on undiminished, the sight of a any Concorde back in the skies will no doubt strengthen the resolve of the British people, to allow us to return one of the BA planes to flight and thus satisfy the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the British public.

ENDS

Not sure about their plans for the 2012 Olympics - kinda reminds us of another delta winged mob. Either way, hope the engines come back to life. Flying though, I think that is a step too far.

I've always thought at least one Concorde should be kept in a taxiable condition, so to hear that the engines may be fired up again is fantastic news. :ymapplause: Lets hope taxi runs are the next step. \:D/

As for Concorde ever flying again, well I'd say there was more chance of Saracenman and Andrew Edmondson eloping to Gretna Green and getting married than seeing Concorde in the air again.

I doubt Airbus or Rolls Royce would support a Concorde project, and the money involved would make 558's resoration seem cheap.

People can dream, but I'd seriously expect that taxiing under its own power would be the most anyone should expect.
This is my sig:

I hope it's not too inflammatory and I hope that certain people wont completely misunderstand it like they did with the last one.

.....and I've got a sledgehammer, that will be the first requirement as once it was put nito the museum the wall at the end was built so at the moment it would need a good deal of percussive persuasion to allow the aircraft to get into the open.

without spoiling the party, this is so far off as to be almost impossible, this piece of spin was the latest release from Ben Lord's Save Concorde Group who'se perceptions of what is possible with the preserved Concordes are touching the realms of fantasy. apart from a bit of power to lift the nose and light up an instrument or two nothing has been operated on the one in question for 6 1/2 years, so the engines are probaly well seized up (xertainly far from running condition I should imagine) there are no suitable spares amd all tech support from airbus has long ceased. The opinions on Concordesst i.e. that it is a nigh on impossible task are probably more realistic.

It would be nice to hear one again , she used to be a common sight over Bicester ;)
This got me wondering though :

Didn't know anyone had plans to build another Concorde from scratch :))

Be VERY interesting to see how they raise £15m.....................

I only hope there is no governmental assistance.

If there is then I think some parliamentary heads should roll. X( X( X( X( X(

Blimey that's a no brainer - they just contact 558's management team - they'll give all the help needed - it might all be a bit last minute - but it'll work :ymdevil: :ymdevil:

I'm not sure of the rule/regs in France but wasn't it the required DA auth that pulled the plug in the first place?

On how not to do it.

Let's face it if you take 558's track record of fund raising into account it would be a non starter.

If The 'Pocket Rocket' team want assistance with fund raising they should contact the Vulcan Club first.
At least their track record is consistent and not reliant on last minute donations.

Now all we need is for the sister airframe at Filton to be assessed...(we can but dream).

What about the BA Concord at Heathrow, it is hidden behind the Jet Blast area at the BA engineering hanger, you can see her as you come into land & looks in good condition :)

I heard a rumour the engines are still on board so...... Would BA do the same as the French?
