I had a good laugh once when I was driving around Orlando. I came up to, I think, the only island in America. A big sign said "WARNING! TRAFFIC CIRCLE!"

Made me titter!!

I know I'm probably wasting my breath
here, but the whole roundabout thing
here in the USA is very regional. Some
states, Massachusetts is a good example,
have lots of them and the drivers use
them just fine. Here in Maine there are
quite a number of them, all in the less
rural areas, and they seem to work out
well.

Same is true for curvy road driving.
Where it's flat the roads are straight.
Where I live, twists and turns are the
rule. Going around a corner well and
at speed is half the fun for me!

Oh, and there's also mastering driving
on ice and snow.......

People always think that St. Martin must be the most difficult place to land an airliner, I disagree after seeing the above, that takes a lot of skill to land there and the winds must be quite tricky being in such a depression too.

Yes you can see him side slipping - he's at quite an angle as he touches down - I wonder if that slope was hacked away to make it match a glide slope - he's clearly parallel to it as he comes in - or do the pilots amend the glide slope to match the terrain I wonder??

I've often wondered - you technical bods - does a big side slip landing bugger the tyres up quicker as the friction must be immense as it straightens up ??

If you listen to the computer voice in
the first one counting down the altitude,
he really has to stick on the runway, too!

Wonder what the safety record is for that
airport?

D.

Well, here's my answer...........

Image

The aircraft [EI-TAF] departed San Salvador for a scheduled passenger flight to Tegucigalpa at 9:05am. Around 9:40, while attempting to land, the aircraft overran runway 02 (6112ft) at Tegucigalpa's Toncontin Airport. The Airbus skidded across a busy roadway, impacting several vehicles, before coming to a rest against a small wooden convenience store. The weather was reported as foggy, with intermittent drizzle, at the time of the accident

A lovely old film of one of my very favourites. The quality of the video and sound isn't great, but it's a fantastic little film.

That Jimmy Stewart was amazing in the war time - he was even in that Noorduyn 'Norseman' C-64 that went missing whilst he was going through his dressing up as Glenn Miller phase =)) =))
