The Grace Spitfire - ML407

Here's a link to the home of 2 seater ML407.

ML407

It's never a well up to date site as Carolyn and her daughter run it and I think she's a bit busy with owning and flying to worry too much about the site - but there's some good photos on there and some interesting info.

AND its a flying Spitfire \:D/

She was originally built as a single seat LF MK IX and actually took part in the invasion - then post war she was converted to the TR9 2 seat designation - When being restored by the late Nick Grace he lowered the rear cockpit below the height of the front cockpit and this is now actually known as the Grace Canopy Conversion. In my opinion it gives a much better line than others with the higher rear cocpit. I also like the perspex tunnel that joins the 2 cockpits. :D

Caroline Grace is amazing - when her husband died, she was determined to learn to fly herself, simply to keep 407 going in his memory. I gather that she's very well respected on the display circuit, and shows no sign of giving up flying yet, although she's not getting any younger.

i think you can pay (a lot!) for a flight in 407 - two-seat Spits are like hens-teeth!

Imagine how much TopGear must have paid (OK - BBC i.e. US) to get 3 of them to bring the presenters in on the match against the Germans ;)

Caroline is certainly an amazing woman and as far as I know one of, if not the most respected female aerobatic pilots in the world. As for paying for a flight in ML407 [-x [-x [-x ...under UK CAA laws this would not be allowed, see here http://www.warbirdexperiences.co.uk/fly_a_spitfire.html

There are certain ways around this law, one being buying a share in an aircraft or being very lucky and getting a freebie. One of my ambitions before I hit the dirt would be to have a flight in a Spitfire but unless I head on over to the USA it's not gonna happen.

Im not sure whether Caroline still does it or not but she used to do a package where she would give a presentation about ML407 and you could sit inside the cockpit with the engine running :D Here's the link to her website http://www.ml407.co.uk/pages/main.html , maybe you can make an enquirey.
