Even though I managed to acquire my bosses bike for today and the weekend I still gotta work tomorrow, despite trying my best to get out of it :( Will have to stalk planes on poles instead. Whens the next one?

Mayfly, all,

We have decided to call an end to LPG open days, this has always been the plan, to ease off abit, the reasons are thus:

1. Event insurance (currently we have to go aboard as no one in the UK since 2006 will do it for a sencible price, Im talking less that 10k for 3 open days)
2. The heat is off now re funding the Q shed build, we have been at this Q shed funding drive now since 1996 and its begining to tell on the doers in the group, Im the yonugest at 41 soon to be 42 (the answer to the ultimate question ;) ) the rest of the group are 55 to 75, and open days are a hell of a lot of work before, during and afterwards and and theres the responsiblity and worry, some take on more than others belive me.
3. The aircraft arent getting any younger and the SAfircan accident has really brought home some issues for us all, remember as owners, the 12 of us take full responsibility for this lot, and they aint toys, far from it, we take running them infront of a paying crowd very very seriously, it isnt a Sunday afternoon walk in the park

Now Im not saying we wont run them again, we just wont have the frequency of LPG run days as we have for the last 15 years, like I say we will put one or both (ha, if their ever servicable together) up the runway at CWJs days to support David and his collection ;)

We will have little low key events however, smaller 'do's' as it were, which we need to keep having to help fund the running/continued preservation of the aircraft and the shed, belive me this hobby isnt cheap ;)

Ive said this many times now, these fast running demos will not last forever, Im suprised we have had 20 years to be honest, nothing in life lasts forever Im afriad ;)

The Q shed will always be open to anyone wanting to visit and see what we have done and will continue to do for as long as I have a breath in me :)

Thumper, as far as I know (these things are never set in stone) the next open day will be May 2010

Dont worry, you will see more Lightning action, I promise, just not as offen, thats all ;)

I think we are all really lucky that its lasted this long, and we've been so privelidged to have access to these aircraft. I know sometimes take them for granted, and when I am talking to others about them, its just like "oh 904 and 728 etc....." and I forget that they aren't just cars, or motorbikes, or non-mobile replicas, they are actually 2 fully-functioning supersonic aircraft! When you think about it, it is such a unique opportunity to be able to get this close to something like this, and see them do things like high-speed taxy runs and twilight reheat displays!

No-one knows when it will end for good, so we're definitely going to be there tomorrow. Thank you Andy and the LPG for letting us all share in your hobby!

:(( :(( :((

I only find out about Lightning taxi runs a few months ago, I can't get to go and now I gotta wait till May next year :((

I understand what you say Andy and I'm just sad that my work has got in the way of meeting you and your aircraft tomorrow.

Can I come up before May 2010 next year just to say hello and look at the Lightnings?

CG, thanks for that, really make me feel like we have 'done good' ;)

See you tomorrow :)

Remember all, we in the LPG have never and will never give up lavishing tons of TLC on the two old ladies, none of us can let it go now, its 'in us' literally ;)

I'll have the video today as well, fingers crossed its not raining or I might play it safe and leave it in the bag. I know it is a touch self indulgent but here is the CF/CG effort of the first twilight do. I especially love the later engine start after it failed earlier and you get all the residual fuel burning off. \:D/

I'll only have the 1 camera today so no low down edge of runway shots. Hey, theres always next time........ ;)

Excellent show, despite a few nerves as to whether 728 would start at all. Diesel gen hooked up and off she went. My video camera couldn't pick up much as it was dark, but I'll have a look at the stills. Still frozen and deaf \:D/ , but thanks for today, Andy please pass on my thanks to the rest of the LPG crew :ymapplause: Nice to have a look inside the Guppy too, and I finally met Bubbles at last. Good to see everybody again with a special thanks to CG/CF who took me under their proverbial wing today. No rain in spite of Cluny - has the hex been lifted?

Andy please pass on my thanks to the rest of the LPG crew

I second that :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

I have some pics and a vid if it ever uploads, taking forever (it's really not very good though).#

Sorry about the poor quality , my camera doesn't like dark conditions plus i had to photoshop [well the video equivalent] it to near death so you can see anything :(

Thank you Andy and the rest of the LPG for yet another fantastic day :ymapplause:
