Anyone who might be popping over from the Lightning do this Saturday, you might want to bring a torch. I can have the lights in the cargo bay on for a little while but, as I'm sure you can imagine, they hammer the battery. I'll be putting some of those touch lights in the bowels of the aircraft but they're not brilliant.

Hope some of you come and keep me company

Just got back from Bruntingthorpe. Done a bit of cleaning ready for tomorrow and heaved the battery (And I do mean heaved! Bloody thing's heavier than my son) up out of it's hole, down through the bowels of the aircraft and into the boot of my car, it's on charge now so should be good for tomorrow.

We had a fantastic turn out yesterday. I reckon over 100 people wandered over from the LPG do (Which was ace BTW!!). I had offers of help in several forms. Cash, time, materials, even one or two contacts I should investigate. I even managed to squeeze enough juice out of our little battery to show everyone the cockpit in all its glory.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to come and see us, it was appreciated!

Forgot to mention this but have you thought about getting in contact with Atlantic Airlines at Coventry as another source for engines ?
They're breaking up another Electra for spares and ofcourse Electras are powered by the same Inverted T56s as used on the Guppy , they might have a few non airworthy examples lying around

Forgot to mention this but have you thought about getting in contact with Atlantic Airlines at Coventry as another source for engines ?
They're breaking up another Electra for spares and ofcourse Electras are powered by the same Inverted T56s as used on the Guppy , they might have a few non airworthy examples lying around

The problem we have is that the last time the cargo door was opened, they didn't remove all the ballast (About 2 tonnes of sand) from the nose, consequently, when the door was finally prized open, the weight bent the hinges, probably, beyond repair. Once we have got round to re-distributing the ballast along the entire length of the aircraft, we'll see if we can fix the hinges, if not, if we ever want to taxi her, we'll have to weld it closed.......permanently!

I get to Bruntingthorpe, I get my overalls on, I mask of an area of propellor ready for painting.....

And it starts hammering down!!! I give it 20 minutes, it doesn't stop, I decide to leave!

I did do some cleaning up though, there was a bit of litter from Saturday that I couldn't see at the time and, alarmingly, some burnt matches were in the nose section (I only looked because I could smell em), it looks like they'd been thrown in there. Luckily, it's pretty damp in there. It's not worth thinking what would have happened if one had caught.

I know who was in there after us, so, I'll be having words.

I've now got it built but at the moment it's only available as a piggy-back onto my tennis club site that I run.
