i could have SWORN i'd posted in this topic - but it seems to have disappeared :p

maybe it's just me :o)

anyway, i find it amazing just how spotless all the BBMF a/c are despite their very busy schedule - you only have to look at theor display dates (http://www.bbmf.co.uk/august08.html as an example) to see just how hard-pressed these machines are! :ymapplause:

great pics Mayfly - more pleeeeeeeeeeeeease :D

ALL the guys on BBMF are so dedicated, DT went to an airshow where one of the groundcrew was sat polising the wheels of one of the a/c at 7 in morning because they had got mucky when she was flown in & he didn't want the public seeing it like that. They do twice the events of the reds, have less groundcrew & have 5 differant types of a/c to look after

I'll see what other piccies I have

unfortunatly photos of the Phantom of the Rhur nose art does not do it justice - don't know if you've seen it up close but it is stunning

It's always great (and very poignant) to see the BBMF in action. It's a pity that they will not be at the Ceremony today in Trafalgar Square when the (Temporary ) Statue to Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park is unveiled. There will however (weather permitting) be a flypast by a Spitfire and a Typhoon.(See my latest posting today on 'Restoration of Locomotive No 34053 'Sir Keith Park' under History Past and Present for more info'). Not only is this Statue in recognition of the pivotal and vital role played by Keith Park (AOC Eleven Group 'Fighter Command') in winning the Battle of Britain, but it is also dedicated to the 3000 (approx) pilots from 15 Countries who fought to defend Britain in 1940 (the 'FEW').
Perhaps the BBMF will be able to 'perform' when the Permanent Statue to Sir Keith Park is unveiled in Waterloo Place on 15th September 2010 - the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Following yesterday's Ceremony in Trafalgar Square, I have today officially raised this point with my contact at the Sir Keith Park Memorial Campaign. I will keep you informed of any developments.

Surely a Spitfire and it's modern counterpart, the Typhoon are more appropriate for Sir Keith Park!

I suppose it's all a matter of opinion but, personally, I would like to see the BBMF inasmuchas Keith Park flew his Hurricane during the days of the Battle Of Britain. So, with the Lancaster flanked by a Spitfire and Hurricane, to my mind would be perfect.

The reason only the Spitfire went was because all the others are in bits right now for winter servicing.
It's just the wrong time of year.
P7350 has only just returned to Coningsby from Duxford from last years major service and Al Pinner was doing his final sortie with the BBMF, so all in all it was actually a very fitting flypast for many reasons :)

I'm sure there will be some sort of flypast next September.
