I know she's a journalist, but if what she says is correct, then good for the US Govt. Maybe they will build a 'plane that is of some use.

WOW! What a woman, Rachel Maddow - GO GIRL!

A great report, $356 000 000 each and only 30 hours maint per flying hour!

My only gripe with her wonderful report was the NEW American word ARMOURMENTARIUM!

Could we persuade her to nip over and investigate the leadership of a well known one aircraft airline, I bet she would come up with some interesting answers!

I think that's HER word, not a Murkin word.

Also, 30 hrs maint. per hour flying is the figure
during the early flight testing stage, not in service.

Not that she doesn't have some points, but she
has cherry-picked and massaged her facts in order
to support her thesis which was pre-determined.
Many of the specific faults she holds up are just
the very typical development glitches that occur
with the introduction of ANY new aircraft.

SOME DAY it will be a Very Good Thing that there
are +/- 200 F-22s. At that time it will be wished
that there were More!

agreed D4th - it was a typical journalistic one sided view point, as you 'cherry picked'

agreed - a very one-sided argument :p

whilst the Raptor IS an incredible machine, I've never really understood it's specific role or purpose - I've always seen it as something of a white elephant

it's good to know that those already built or in the pipeline, will be retained rather than scrapped - but i wonder how long they will last? :-?

Fighter/Bomber/Attack/Recon --
Built to be flexible and, despite
her charges, efficient to maintain.
30 to 40 year lifespan, but don't
hold me to that. Also built for easy
upgrades -- plug out/plug in....

I agree with all of the above, she's a journo!

Still love to see her have a good look at the Vulcan set up!

As I said, she is a journalist, but if she isn't giving the facts is there a rebuttal from the M.O.D.(or whatever it is in USA). If they are the facts, the political shenanigans are plain to see and why they ensured it would be built. Anyway, it is an ugly bitch (the f22 not Rachel - she is strangely attractive in a thwacking kind of way) like the JSF.
