Off topic but....

Biggest pain at them moment is laser pointers and high powered torches being directed at aircraft on approach

yeah, I've read about that! it might be 'good fun' for children etc, but clearly no thoughts of safety enter their heads!

although i must admit, if they'd been around in my day, i probably would have done much the same - i had to make do with eggs and double-decker buses =))

Read about this in the paper today; a little confused as to how a receiver can transmit, but I suppose faulty wiring would do it!
Possibly supplied by a Luton based pilot in an effort to get diverted somewhere nice....!

Believe it or not all receivers and electrical equipment transmit, all be it extremely low power (one of the reasons why you cant use your cd player on an aircraft during takeoff or landing. All electrical equipment generates an electrical / Radio frequency (RF) field that can cause interference with adjacent cables / equipment. A computer is terrible. You can pick up what is on your screen from outside your house and see it all as if you are sat in the room in front of it (If you have the right equipment).

From a military stand point it is covered by something called Tempest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TEMPEST
The art of testing is something of a black art but to put it in simple terms think of a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there.

OMG!!!! :-o :-o :-o :-o

That's it!! I'm wallpapering the office in baking foil!!

Seriously, although I knew about interference from most electrical items in the home, I never realised that it could be used to that extent! No more listening to the Archers on Iplayer then :((
