Great to see the Phantom in action!

Speaks volumes about our investment priorities that the Victor had more advanced radar!

Thanks,

one of the most interesting YouTube clips I've seen for a while - thanks! :ymapplause:

it's still sobering to think, that in all but the youngest generation's lifetimes, the Soviet threat was a very REAL threat. our young'ns these days have never had it so good! :p

Wow this is spooky, we have had a call from the station commander at Leuchars today

They are imminently going to demolish the Q-Shed, to make way for a new Typhoon support facility.

The Station Commander has offered us any spares we might need, which in typical LPG fashion is perfect timing as last weekend while up on the back I noticed some nasty corrosion on the back door hanging plates which has come from 9 years laying outside, I was going to get the the contrators to replace it all (we need to show them first and decide), but if we can get the bolt on plates from the Leuchars shed then that might be better, they are old (1963) but have never been exposed to the elements like ours, ummmmmm

It is planned to visit shortly to see what we can obtain, don't think we want another Q shed though, do we HA ;)

Funny how things turn out

Its amazing really, think the only bits we need are the back door hanging plates, noting else, mind you we could have done with some 3" x 3" x 12ft angle sections about 12 months ago, but we have since replaced all that with new stuff, hey ho.

I know the tender is out and has been won, there wont be any saving of this one I afriad, its for the smelter, just save the bits we need, we spent many months back in 1994 talking the contrators at Wattisham into not cutting the 15 main uprights at the floor level but digging round them and lifting them out, theres 3 ft under ground that you dont see, and also unbolting everything instead of gas axing it all.
We very nearly failed, it was a 'closeun' as the costs were greater to take it apart on just cut it down and skip it ;)

All good stuff, and make ours little bit more special ;)

SM there wont be anymore rebuilding of Q sheds, thats it for the LPG, some of us are about knackered ;)

Dont think anyone else is gonna save it either

well to quote 'someone' directly - "you can't save 'em all!" ;)

are any of the other bits in better nick than yours 320? how about the rear doors/runners/etc themselves?

personnel doors?

Yeh I know who has said that in the past ;)

No, theres no other bits we need really, we got most of it with ours, there was only a few bits missing, amazing really, considering how much there was and how rushed it all was at the time, the only bits are the rear door hanging plates I mentioned above, these bolt on to the main door beams them selves.
See below:

Rear door beams going in back in 2005

We have the two other rear facing personel doors and I made that other one, thats replaces the steel sliding door at the side where the crew bungalow corridor lead to, which will also be refitted one day soon. ;)

The door runners are very simple really, they are strips of steel welded to the bolt on plates that we are looking at replacing from the Leuchars shed, the fact that they are bolt on makes life easier. :)
