Some Previously Unseen TSR2 Photo's

Postby 350wedge » Tue Oct 20, 2009 5:27 pm

I have to say a massive massive thank you to Glenn Surtees over on the Talk Photography forums for these pictures.

They show XR220 35 years ago in June 1974 loaded onto a trailer and being made ready for the trip to RAF Cosford where she is now based. These pictures were taken at RAF Henlow.

As someone that loves TSR2 its a real joy to see these extra photo's, thanks again Glenn :ymapplause:

Thanks Tony, please pass on our gratitude!

TSR-2 simply got the first 3 right. ”

Nice pics. Are there only the two of these left? Cosford and Duxford?

Yes those are the only two complete aircraft left. Earlier this year I made it a mission one weekend to visit the Duxford example one day (XR222) and then go to Cosford the next day to see XR220. There is a nose section intact as well at Brooklands I believe.

If the government at the time had had their way there would be no survivors. Its a miracle really these two survive. Duxford's aircraft is far less complete though that the one at Cosford. Its pretty much just a shell where Cosfords is much more complete.

great pics - thanks! :ymapplause:

what a beauty she is - no need to continue this sentence........... X(

it still amazes me that, given the thoroughness with which all tools, jigs, etc were destroyed, how did ANYTHING survive, let alone TWO almost complete airframes?
