It's clearly a bad day in Fleet Street for news - an even bigger half a page in the The Mail too with several full colour pictures :-o :-o

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1211925/Hero-pilot-averted-air-disaster-pilot-hit-throttle-giant-bomber-mistake.html

Typical press - They've got a lot of facts wrong or twisted too :p

The co-pilot did not 'Hit the Throttle open'
There was no 'crowd in danger' at that end of the runway - and housing estate???
It was not a slow run 'photoshoot'
'Didn't have time to deploy the drag chute' - was one even fitted?
How do you land in a cloud of dust - on grass?

Well it seems there are rules for fat old aircrew and rules for the rest of us. Here are two chaps, in charge of a whopping great plane, neither with the neccessary stamps to legally fly em. They fly it and get a pat on the back instead of five years each for endangering all and sundry and a chunk of our heritage to boot. I on the other hand get dna tested, a night in cells and a caution for borrowing a pasty from Sainsburys. My excuse that I was hungry does not seem to count. Sounds a lot better to me than "I pushed the lever the wrong way, honest."

The above seems to be a bit upset for being caught STEALING.

This one below had me spitting tea all over the place,,,,,,,,,,,

Crikey! Didn't even wait for ' V2 Rotate'. Well done Bob Prothero, us Brylcreem Boys always come through in the tight moments. "There I was , twenty thousand feet, upside down, and nothing on the clock but the makers name"

I was surprised to learn that Victors have
a "Throttle Button". It was in The Mail so it
MUST be true!

How hard can it be? Pull the control column back to go up, push it forward to go down. James Bond does it all the time! ;)

its amazing how you can sensationalise something -

'they put down in a field beyond the runway'
