Typhoon Project WIP

Postby ActionArt » Thu Sep 03, 2009 4:53 am

Here's a work in progress for the big Typhoon project. I'm just working on the Typhoon model itself which has proven tricky as expected but it's coming along. I need those aviation enthusiast's sharp eyes to spot errors, omissions, stupid mistakes and the like.

This is still quite rough and is missing the guns (getting special attention :ymdevil: ) I haven't done anything on the cockpit interior or radiator yet and the lights need a bit of work as well. It won't looks so plastic when it is in the environment, properly lit and reflecting a bit etc. Small details like rivets are in progress. Also the prop is not there yet.

Thanks for any input!!!

thanks for the insight AA - couldn't possibly comment on any technicalities but your work is fascinating, I dabble with corel draw/paint wouldn't know where to start with something like this.

I feel quite honoured you share with a small forum like this - thank you :ymapplause:

Thanks everyone, I hope to have it pretty much done this weekend. I'll post an update later. Well, I better get back to work, there's a lot of clicking to do.

Dougs - I've never investigated doing these for games, I suppose I should. Aren't most of them done by internal staff at the game development company? The way it is wouldn't work too well, it already has half a million "polygons" and wouldn't be too responsive in a game. It could be reduced a lot though without losing much.

LMAO =)) =)) =))

len the painting of the models is the big thing with the flight sim's you can have a rubish model but if you have a good paint job over the top it makes all the differance and yours look great how long do you spend on the paint job?
you must be reserching them as they are way too acurate to be guess work.

with the new FSX there is a parameter called LOD (level of detail) that reduces the polygon count depending on how close they are to the screen
you should have a chat with one of the flight sim plane makers im sure they would be very intested in your work especially as you have already done most of the work you need to make a really good sim plane ;) :D

Let me know if you spot any errors. I'll do the cockpit interior later and wear and tear will be added in the final scene. The nose cone will be motion blurred to match the prop in the final project. I'm still looking for a really good detailed shot of the radiator area, let me know if you have anything :)

I think I'll go have a beer now....

Cheers!

Nipped in to the RAF Museum at Hendon yesterday, took some shots of their Tempest for you, I will post them as soon as I get home later in the week!

That AIR INTAKE looks fine to me, my father served alongside Typhoons and there are lots of pictures in the Allied Tactical Air Force series of books!

As far as I can tell, it's pretty close. The best image I have is this one:

http://files.myopera.com/musickna/albums/29208/Typhoon%20radiator.jpg

However, it is missing pieces inside. There are other parts that belong to the intake.
