Lancaster Museum Event - Nanton Alberta, Canada

Postby ActionArt » Wed Jul 29, 2009 5:14 pm

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this forum. I sure do like it.

Our only Lancaster museum in western Canada is having a nice event this summer. They are honouring Ian Bazalgette (VC) and "twinning" the village of Senantes, France and Nanton. Several people are coming from Senantes and they're going to fire up the Lancaster.

You can find out more about it here:

http://lancastermuseum.ca/event2009rememberbaz.html

I did some artwork for them this last year for the event. I'll attach it. Hope you enjoy...

Cheers!

Thanks! It'll be fun. They are slowly restoring the Lanc back to flying condition but it's a long road.

There's a wallpaper sized image of the artwork here:

Cheers!

Welcome to the nuthouse. Like the artwork, AA. Hope they get the Lanc flying sooner rather than later. :D

"Asylum", "Nuthouse", sounds like home! :)

Thanks so much guys, glad you like the image. I'm really looking forward to the Lanc being fired up. The sound of those Merlins is the best. I think they're restoring engine 3 of 4 so they have a ways to go yet. Also some structural work. I sure hope they can do it. They've been at it for a while now.

Thank you kindly. Yes that's me with the exception of the backgrounds for the trains. A friend did the scenery and I did the trains.

Thanks! Bill Overstreet - the Mustang pilot was such a fun guy to work with. He had so many great stories, this was just one. He was captured once and while being driven to POW camp he found a tire wrench, hit the driver over the head and escaped. After that he was returning home from a mission at very low altitude when he came over a hill. On the other side was a young lady that lifted up her dress as he passed. He said "I'm not sure if she was trying to kill me or just being friendly". I've always wanted to do that scene and will if I get time :p

Yes. All digital. Each object is modeled and rendered in 3D. Sort of the same process you'd use for movie effects, only it's a still image.

My pleasure. On the upcoming Typhoon project I'll post it in various stages here to get crits before I go to print.

All the expertise here is much appreciated.

I'm hoping to make it a full time gig next year and leave the day jobs behind. We'll see....

digital art has always fascinated me, May I be cheeky & ask what software you use? The ability of artist such as yourself is incredible & blows me away...

I used to use Lightwave (newtek.com) for almost everything but, sadly, they've been falling behind over the years and now I use Softimage (softimage.com) which I love but it's more expensive. I do use Photoshop some as well to composite all the elements together and do some hand painting. I also use a great little modeler call MoI (moi3d.com). I really like it but now that I'm using Softimage I don't need it as much. Most of what you see was done with Lightwave since the move to Softimage was quite recent.
