Just When You Think......

Postby Dan4th » Sat May 23, 2009 11:31 pm

Just when I thought I'd seen every single SR-71
Blackbird clip there was, up pops THIS!

There are bits and pieces I've seen, but 80% new to me!

well i don't think I'd seen ANY of that footage before Danf - cracking find! :ymapplause:

seeing so many under construction too - what a machine!

you know what though - it still makes me have even more respect for what the Concorde engineers did - sure, considerably slower than Blackbird, but very similar technologies and materials, operating at similar altitudes, without the need for AAR - and Concorde carried 100 pax - none of whom needed spacesuits!

i only ever saw SR71 perform once - at Mildenhall in the late 1980s - a seriously impressive bit of kit. what a shame none fly now :(

Don't you believe it.

I have a theory that the yanks keep at least one of everything servicable, just in case

I also think that marmite is the scrapings off the underside of a skunk, but thats another story :D
NB; Any negative comments I post about the Vulcan are posted SOLELY to wind Gregg up!

Well, I DO know that a few F-117s are kept in
ready storage to be put back up quickly if they're
ever needed. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that
there were a few Blackbirds kept in a similar state
"just in case"........

I mean, there are still U-2 Dragonladies IN USE!!!!!!!

WHEW!!!!!!!

i wouldn't be surprised either you know Gaz - it wouldn't be the first time that they were retired and then returned to service would it?

when you think that the Murkins still have Iowa class battleships tucked away! USS Iowa and USS Wisconsin are awaiting new homes as museum ships, with the caveat that they both be kept in a condition in which they could be called up again! :p

the question is though, re SR71, do they have anything that replaced it? Aurora possibly, but if not - who knows what the future holds

as for the Marmite - i think you're on to something there Gaz =))

the bloke was definitely a genius!

sometimes it takes someone like him to 'think outside the box' to come up with something utterly brilliant - except he came up with SEVERAL brilliant designs
