Ryanair lands on taxiway

Italian investigators are inquiring into a incident at Cagliari airport in Sardinia, where a Ryanair aircraft landed on a taxiway!
Details have not been released yet but early suggestions say the aircraft was a B737 flying from Girona, Spain.
The incident has happened only 3 days after the airport was re-opened after runway moderation. During the moderation the taxiway was used as a second runway.
The Ryanair pilots are being examined for their "level of preparedness".
The weather at the airport was low cloud, light rain, and mist, but 4km visibility.
No one was injured in the event.

Wow! Did see a B707 land at dusk at RAF Changi, once back in 1970 ish, trouble was he was aiming for Paya Leba, the old Singapore Airport, just down the road. He quickly taxied round and took off again sharpish. Oooops!

Sadly, this has also happened at WITTERING/COTTESMORE, which unfortunately are 16 miles apart! The two Harrier pilots were very embarrassed.

that used to happen from time to time at LGW - the main taxiway was the relief runway, particularly at night when maintenance was going on. i don't think anything actually landed on it though in the time i was there, but certainly air traffic told me that they regularly had to deal with foreign pilots who had lined up for the wrong runway, and tell them to go around!

the trouble was usually the fundamental mistake of confusing left and right

of course, there are two famous occasions of an even sillier mistake in the UK - one a/c tried to land at LHR but ended up on the Bath Road, to the north of the airport!

the other was a Pan-Am 707 which landed at Northolt in 1960, thinking it was LHR

getting it out again was something of a logistical operation though - i believe that they had to reduce weight as much as possible, and the Police even closed the A40!

Ryanair were probably trying to save on fuel taxi-ing (taxying?) from the runway.

Ryanair are always the last to throw the wheels out when coming past my house to land at St Ansted.
Everyone else has gear down as they come past Harlow, nooooooooo not Terry's lot. They won't even consider it until they get to Spellbrook.

All to save a few quid by keeping the A/c 'clean' as long as possible.

Also Tom has been asking around and all the people he has spoken to have said not to work for them as moving on is virtually impossible with Ryanair on your CV. (allegedly).
