Glacier Girl

Postby Spitfire » Sun Apr 05, 2009 11:02 pm

Stooging around on YT I found this video of the recovery team actually firing a newly recovered Glacier Girl cannon :-o :-o

That was good enough ... but that got me to looking for more on this remarkable story and I got to this site.......

http://p38assn.org/glacier-girl.htm

You've probably already been there but I thought it worthy of posting again as there is a brilliant narrative about the recovery ......

They proudly proclaim that 80% of the flying plane is original .... MMmmmmm - sceptical - but if they say so ;)

I see she was due to fly to Duxford but quit at Goose Bay with a sick engine in 2007 ... any one know if she ever got here after that...certainly I've never heard if she did :(

There was a documentary on TV, very interesting it took them a long time to find the aircraft as they had sunk deep below the surface over the 60 years or so in the glacier.

She's meant to be trying again to make the journey to Duxford for Legends in July, that's the only reason I was going to go to Legends this year, still not sure I can make it, but I'd love to see her if she makes it this time :) .

After a major trek like that, you'd have to assume
she'd stick around and appear at various venues
for at least a few weeks!

As you say she parked it at Goose in 2007 and as Helen has said, it is hoped that she may be luckier this time. It would make Legends a rather special event, it's a long time since we had a P38 in the skies over here.
