Why I Like MUSTANGS

Postby Xplumberlives » Wed Mar 18, 2009 7:19 pm

I like Mustangs because of the combination of the best of British and American aviation design! For sheer grunt, ability and range they were unbeatable, They made a difference.

they always look a little 'industrial' to me - almost awkward :(

i KNOW they are fabulous aeroplanes, but nothing will ever match a Spitfire in my book :p

absolutely - the Mustang's range was perhaps its best attribute in WW2 - obviously the performance too, but they just don't 'stir' me quite like a Spit does

sorry! :(

When I was at Duxford a few years back - on the day they flew the 21 Spitfires - we were treated to a display by 2 Mustangs in very close formation - one was flown by Lee Proudfoot and I can't remember who flew the other.

But apparently Lee had only flown in that day and hadn't practised a routine with the other bloke so said he would just follow the other chaps lead ..... well I have NEVER seen anything so brilliant in my life - it was spell binding .... you could have tied them together with 2 bits of string :D They were SO close all the time and the formatting was unbelievable through every manouvre - The noise of the 2 merlins was just like a Mosquito - in fact they could have been a Mosquito they were that close together :))

Not a total devotee of the Mustang - but that day I was just gobsmacked by them :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

*Gets hard hat ready* I'm neither here nor there with mustangs, they just don't do it for me.

Best pic so far in this thread is the one with the C-47 in the background =)) =))

Maybe i'm just not a fighter girl ;) :D

However I do like this pic I took at Legends last year (just before Miss Helen had her little landing accident)

I like Mustangs - they sound superb and always put on a spirited display. However, I prefer both the Spitfire and Corsair from an aesthetic perspective.

Another Flying Legends '08 piccie for good measure...

Take a look at this site, it's very informative and should gives a good understanding of a truly beautiful aircraft. These are the babies I am aiming to fly in this year as soon as I am fit enough to do it. :D

However, this kind of Mustang I do like...
