...and 99% true too; it was Galland who commented that he could do with a squadron of Spitfires, but it wasn't to Goering

in actual fact, the Luftwaffe firmly believed that the Spit was FAR superior to the Me109 - whereas, when we were able to test 'Back 6' it was found that both aircraft were comparable in terms of performance.

no doubt the Spit was much more pilot-friendly, but the Krauts thought that Spits were better than they really were - GOOD! =))

Don't you take any notice of 'em Mayfly, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Not your fault Pam, my new found talent backfired and I deleted the photo from photobucket by mistake. It's back now. :-o :-o :ymblushing: :ymblushing:

Bet you didn't see the bit at the bottom SM.....otherwise you'd have pounced :)) :))

I don’t pretend the little Spitfire is perfect, but I do hope it has captured something of the spirit and incomparable beauty of this magnificent fighter – perhaps the closest to a union that art and technology have ever come – a killing machine with lines that are almost sublime.

I have to say that with the BBMF Spitfires I'm more motivated to choose favourites from the different liveries they've adopted. Their Mk Vb, AB910, looked stunning in the desert colours of 244 Wing and their Mk XIX, PS915, was superb in the markings of 152 (SEAC) Squadron. However, overall I still love best the look and sound of the PR Mk XIX's with their Griffon growl and blue / grey colour scheme. To me, that's the definitive performance variant of the Spitfire.

Yes the PR XIX definitely has the look I like - even as a late mark it has the beautiful plan form shape - and the longer sleeker nose adds a kind of balance to the overall shape.

I reckon the original Mk 1 was quite a rakish beauty too! B-) B-)
