Today, 6 years ago, XH558 flew again for the first time after restoration .

Wasn't that supposed to add YEARS

And while Coaster Girl's video is very

The wing mods will give loads of years. Remaining engine life restricts us to two years.

Unless the RAF or Rolls Royce have any in deep storage properly stored and with paper work then the chances of finding any is at best remote but you can never say never.

Can anyone please delineate the donk
situation????

In other words, how many are there (to
include spares) and roughly how many
hours left, etc. ?

I expect there is a FIRM limit from your
CAA as to how many "cycles" are to be
allowed, but is there any wiggle room
with thorough inspection and testing?

And even after all this time, I find it
hard to believe that RR wouldn't want
to be of at least SOME kind of assistance....

Further to the earlier point on engine life, there wasn't any extension granted this year.

I was under the impression Martin Withers said just that on the sunday at Waddington. Must of heard wrong, I blame Kev Rumens for making to much noise.

I don't recall that but then again the speaker system always sounds like they are talking under water!!!

TBH I would have thought it would have been in the Newsletters because the more engine hours they have available equals more support for the wing mod.

It was in one of the newsletters about tentative approaches being made ( or something along those lines) but like I said , no extension has been granted. The 2 spares are ok for flight.

I thought one of them was pulled for a high mag plug debris count, but obviously not.

When I spoke to Taff on the subject of the high mag chip engine he remained noncommittal......
Personally speaking I'm sure that moves were afoot to declare the above engine serviceable. I just vaguely recall something along those lines but i cannot for the life of me remember from where.

I understood they installed it for ground running during last winter, to further monitor the debris count, then removed it again before the 2013 season. I haven't heard anything of the results.

Edited to add ~ In May last year, Dr P said "..the other engine..which displayed the high debris-count on the mag-chip detectors..is still the subject of an ongoing investigation as to whether or not it is recoverable....we are working very closely with RR and another engineering firm to see whether or not that engine is recoverable".
