Clacton air show 23-8-2013

Postby Sickbag_andy » Sat Aug 24, 2013 8:53 pm

I fought my way through the Essex traffic to see the Clacton air show and to introduce my wife to the pleasures of watching the last flying vulcan, she was deafened but not disappointed! the second pass was almost overhead, low and deafening - the loudest I had experienced and enough to impress my wife and convert her to vulcanism! Traffic problems due to a closed road meant that we only saw the last 40 minutes of the show but the 3 displays we saw made it worthwhile, firstly Mustang ‘Ferocious Frankie’ followed by ‘558 and finally the Red arrows – I’m pleased to report that my wife thought 558 was far better than the Reds! Hazy conditions did spoil the photo clarity however so apologies as they are not my best ever efforts but I thought I would share them anyway…

Turning in to wake up Essex!

Here she comes, low, loud and lens filling! this was the second pass as mentioned above taken at 120mm zoom and hardly cropped at all – brilliant to see and hear! and thank goodness for image stabilisation

Disappearing in it’s self generated heat haze (apologies but I appear to have gained a dust spot in this one somehow)

Oi! – who’s display IS this?

And of course the statutory Kev Rumens wing over, spectacular as ever

Then finally I tried one in black & white

sorry - didnt get onto the wall at Jaywick until 2.30 , the show finished just after 3pm and it was another mile away to get to you, we went home to try to mitigate the traffic jams (and failed!)
