I beg to differ Pam, but two years ago 558 did a display before she landed on the Thursday arrivals day, but if they need to verify a display before they then why not do it over Waddington and not Scampton, she did do one there as we could see and hear her in the distance. :(

Thursday is PRESS day! and practice display day if required.

Friday is ARRIVALS day. The clue is in the name.

After writing a big long post which I decided to delete, suffice to say 558 did not meet the perimeters to display over Waddington on Friday eg; it was for the crews benefit NOT Waddingtons and the air show.

Just got back from waddington I went yesterday as well but was realy disapointed with the vulcan display on saturday very sedate and short so hearing kev was flying sunday i decided to go again. Well I have never seen a kev display before but wow the wing overs martin withers in the commentry box seemed lost for words saying the next one would be more gentle when in fact it was more extreme!!!! :D :D :D

I was there both days and yes yesterdays was sedate but it was Bills first public display as captain. Kevs today was more dynamic but I think the routine itself lets them down - it appeared to be much further away from the crowd than in previous years but I do like the spiral climb both up and down.

Saturday display

Not my video. Found on You Tube.
I was not at the Air Show for the second year in a row.

I can understand that it was bills first display but this was waddington arguably xh558's home display shouldnt the most experienced display pilots be displaying when available especially at the big shows.

By the way I was lucky to see Kev and Dave discussing flying techniques on saturday at the vulcan village.

Oh was that you? You should have said. They always end up talking about displaying the Vulcan, we went into town last week only paid for an hours parking and DT spent 50 minutes of it talking to Kev about flying!!! ^:)^ @-)

The thing about flying with a team is you share the hours available. If Kev does all of them when he's available it means less time for the others so they lose currency and the opportunity to gain experience. They only have about 30 hrs flying hours a year between 5 of them. As for experienced display pilots the that has to be Bill, he's been on BBMF, the Reds and displayed the Tutor. As I pointed out on another forum Kev was on the VDF for several years and flew constantly with DT, he said himself yesterday that tantamounts to an apprenticeship and where he learnt his technique, he also said he has done the last 2 years on the Saturday both at Waddington and at RIAT so this year at Waddington he's moved to Sunday.

I agree Pam, there did seem to be a distant display rather then up close. I am wrong, did 558 do a display at Scampton then fly into Waddington on Friday, i could see the arrows displaying over there and the Vulcan the same later in the day.

Well I have yet to meet anybody who can display a Vulcan better than DT either in the air or on the ground, and having worked with him for many years I know what i'm talking about. ;) :D

I plan to arrive some time tomorrow. Knowing my luck after 558.
In show on Saturday, outside Sunday and Conningsby Monday for a bit.

Oooo a bit of what? =))

Missed my bit yesterday :( ;) .

My only view of Conningsby was from the top of Tattershall Castle, but it was a little murky.

What were people's highlights at Waddington?

I loved the Turkish F-16. and the Swedes.
I'd rather be skiing

Turkish F16 for me and the Wokka - it's just amazing how they throw it around and it won the best display award on Saturday.

Not sure why some complain there were 3 F16s in the display line up, all were totally different displays and no different IMHO to having the Reds, Saudis and solo Hawk but there again you can't please every one.

For an admission cost £22 I thought it was well worth it even tho' there some gaps in the display because of technicalities.

Glad you enjoyed it Folks ! honestly the amount of moaning and complaining over on a certain other site regarding a certain triangular aircraft is ridiculous,I'm just glad it's still in the air and the way some of the pilots are criticized is just downright insulting, makes me spit X(

If they knew half as much as they think they do they may have something to say worth listening too!

The displays were not up to 'normal' but I think that is down to some of the routine - I bet it's tweeked before long...

I've said before and I repeat IMHO the pilots do not get enough hours to refine the new moves it happens throughout the season.

Seeing 558 in the air always makes me smile. :D

I'm looking forward to seeing the new, much discussed, routine at RIAT. Cosford was pretty much last year's sequence, albeit with a flat, straight entrance, which was a bit disappointing IMO - always nice to get some topside views on arrival!
