Cosford Airshow on Sunday

Postby 350wedge » Fri Jun 07, 2013 8:41 am

Anyone else going to Cosford this year??

I'll be travelling up from Southampton nice and early, only going for XH558 really but will be nice to see the old Jaguars up there again. No word that they might ground run one again like they did last year...

I'd love to get up to Waddington again, if nothing else to see the Viggen. Cant remember ever seeing one of those fly before. Last and only time I was there was for XH558's first public display.... Good times :)

Shame its such a long journey for me.....

I have read they are expecting car parks to be full and the number of tickets on the gates are limited. There is no limit on pedestrian access and they suggest the use of trains to get there.

Same here. No trains and no buses :( :(.
I could do Cosford and back in a day (Monday to Saturday only (Hence why I don't go to the AGM)).
Leave at 0700, arrive at 1100; leave at 1700, arrive at 2100.

Hope the airshow is a very good one and I look forward to seeing photos and videos of the show.

Well I hope those who went got in. Apparently there 7 mile tailbacks on the motorway and some were turned away at the gates.

I hit the back of the queue at 8.20 on the motorway, took a further hour and a quarter or so to get inside and parked up. Getting out was a mare too although I didn't even bother trying to leave before 7.30pm as nothing was moving at the control tower end of the parking. I was parked not far behind the Vulcan Village.

Must have got out and onto clear roads about 8.30 and not home till just before midnight including a stop for a Burger King!!

Very long day for me, doubt I'll go next year unless I do it differently and get a coach or something...

I have to say getting in and out is a farce, I was there at 7.30am and the queue was at the top of the roundabout, I was fortunate in that I was near the entrance so got a flyer. At 3pm cars were still coming into the show, I think i would have turned around at that point.

It's funny. They were reading out all of the nice tweets on airshow fm. Didn't read out mine though, which said..

"Sort the lack of traffic control out in the car parks! Squaddies too busy looking at phones to care!"

It was worse than any airshow I've ever been to. We (Me and XPL) got in easy enough, we were early, but despite hanging round on the airfield until 19:30, it took us another 90 minutes to get off the car park.

Naughty fields were mentioned for next year ;)
NB; Any negative comments I post about the Vulcan are posted SOLELY to wind Gregg up!

Well talking of the show, there was a spat near me, a family decended, clearly not interested in the show, they did nothing but get drunk the whole time and were a tad loud, i moved, but what got me was the fact they put a tent up, above 6ft in height, they had a small babe in arms and moaned at the noise. they must have paid for an expensive day out. some fellow enthusiast had words, fell on deaf ears though, ah well its not what it used to be.

Gaz 90 minutes is not too bad. It once took me and a colleague 2.5 hours to get off camp. I swore then I would never go again. That was in 1982!!!

Am I the only one who didn't have any bother? 10 minutes or so waiting to get in. Got in the car at 17:50 and drive straight out. I was home by 20:00.

Were you working at VV Greeg and did you use the main entrance for punters? I know traders often have different entrances.

I remember going to Brands Hatch back in the early 80s we stopped with friends who were camping for a BBQ and the traffic hadn't moved in over 4 hours. I went to the loo and found a nice farmer charging £1 to escort you across his field we were out in 20 mins but the same cars waiting to get didn't move until 11pm :-o

I got out quite easily at 7:30 pm, although I did drive along between stalls (as did many others). BIG queues for the trains.

Coming in was easy at 7:30 am but I stayed up for a long weekend. I heard someone say 8 mile queues on motorway at 8:30 but I was coming from opposite direction.

When driving 'round on Saturday I did see signs for entering from the A464. I don't know what that would have been like.
I'd rather be skiing

Up at 04:30 with TDC and his girlfriend Lauren (A cadet at 414 Sqn, an F1 Fan and generally blooming nice girl) left home at 05:30. Joined queue on M54 hard shoulder at 08:00, got in about 08:30. Good day, got off base at 19:30 and home at 22:15.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and Lauren is a 558 convert..........
