We were in the Wolds at lunch and we were getting all the other "Cranwell's" diverting to Coningsby, we wondered what had happened.

Glad the crew are ok.

Getting to be like the Lightning - buy a field in Lincolnshire and wait for a Tutor to arrive!

Rumours are it's another prop failure.

Does anyone know what the latest is on the Tutor situation? I see from Cosford's website that they are still grounded following January's incident. Has a cause been established and the hiatus is whilst a fix is developed, or are investigations ongoing?

Thanks,

I am under the impression there are 2 flying but are 4 blade props - does that sound right - I think they know the problem it's finding a solution that's taking time.

There again I may talking absolute boll***s :))

A bit worrying.

"A defence source told the Times: 'There is now a bottleneck. No military pilot has started training for six months and there is no solution in sight.'

According to the source a row has now broken out between the defence contractor Babcock and the German manufacturers about who was responsible for the failures."

Can we take it back in house? Get a few Chipmunks back!

I had wondered what type of talks would be taking place between the various parties. The RAF is so small now there is nothing to fall back on. I would imagine a 4 bladed prop would require some sort of mod/upgrade as would it not produce more torque etc?

Been no AEF flying for months which is interesting as I have just received an email outlining the ACO for the next few years........ They want to increase the number of cadets that get flying both in powered and non powered a/c.

There were a couple of Tutors sat in the hangar at Cosford the other weekend sans propellors...

One was supposed to be part of the display programme at Abingdon on Sunday, but the announcer confirmed they had been grounded again.

The RAF-retired Bulldog displayed though!

There is a post on Air Cadet Central here saying they were back in service on 6th May, but no background or explanation.
