Dornier 17

Postby Willwilliams » Thu Feb 21, 2013 5:15 pm

Hi All

The recovery of the Dornier 17 from Goodwin Sands is taking shape. They have now designed a lifting frame for the aircraft. The Cosford Musuem's website is going to be putting up regular updates soon on their site going forward. Would love to go and see them raise it. B-)

That's good news thanks for letting us know.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Hi.
I remember the Dornier 17, it was mostly them that aimed for Grimsby Docks and hit the town! Later on, we had the buzz bomb attacks, they used to join 2 dorniers with an extra engine where the wing joined and they carried a buzz bomb under each fuselage and they were cast loose over Grimsby, hoping to reach the industrial midlands.

The recovery operation is getting under way. Interesting piece from the BBC here.

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

On the radio this morning they said they had run into difficulties and were using a riskier method.

"If the wreck is successfully raised the RAF Museum plans to transport it by road to its conservation centre at Rossford in the West Midlands" ??????
I'd rather be skiing
