Thank you guys :) I'm really pleased you like the tribute. It's a great shame Harriet Quimby isn't better known, she was quite a lady. There was to be a film about her at some point but I don't think it was ever released though I believe she had a stamp printed in her honour which is something I guess.

The painting will be on exhibition next month at the Manchester Science Museum alongside some other pioneering greats, someone might even buy her and take her home ;)

Cheers,

Terry

Hi Dave, I've had to put the vertical painting on hold for a while, it wasn't working out too good, no worries though I shall be returning to it soon. Here's a new WW1 painting to be going on with :) All comments welcome.

The Bavarian Knight Oil on canvas

Otto Kissenberth was one of three German aces to wear spectacles during the war, Bernet and Wintgens being the other two. Kissenberth most often flew an Albatros D.V with yellow and white Edelweiss painted on its fuselage. Credited with 20 victories his last was scored in a captured Sopwith Camel. Less than two weeks later, on the evening of 29 May 1918, he was seriously injured when he crashed the British fighter. He was awarded the Pour le Merit whilst recovering in hospital. Returning to duty later that year, he served as commanding officer of the Schliessheim flying school until the end of the war. In 1919, Kissenberth was killed in a climbing accident while mountaineering in the Bavarian Alps.

As usual, Terry, this is all good :ymapplause:

Just a classic situation from the
"Great War" where hunter becomes
hunted.....

This one's a little different from some
of your others, especially with the
colo(u)r choices, but I really like it!

And Kissenberth's story is a good one, too!

Thanks for letting us see it :)

I like the fact it's oil on canvas.

I like that it's not of the so-called
"Photographic Realism" genre.

I like that it shows oil stains behind
the cowlings :D

I also like the size -- not too big,
but not too little, either.

Watch for my PM, Terry......

Danf.

Addendum:::::::::::::

I don't think that's the tail number or even
the serial number, btw.....

L-749A is the aircraft type, but I'm not sure
where that "X" came from...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_L-749

Maybe this was the prototype 749A sold to
this airline when Lockheed was done with it?
