I was going to ask if anyone knows what the latest on Pink Lady is.... rumours were she was going to be grounded for good

Thanks guys Looking at the B-17 from a tail gunners perspective could be an interesting way of thinking up a title.

The last I heard Pink Lady is grounded due to financial problems with the insurance costs, the B-17 that went down last year could have increased the cost. It reminds me of a programme I watched a few years back about some guys trying desperately to get a B-17 off an ice berg, they had the engines running and almost did it but ran out of time and money. Even more tragic, the guy in charge got pneumonia and died. As ever it's a small band of dedicated people who try to keep these machines in the air but I guess there is only so much they can do

As a tribute to the late and great Joe De Marco Manchester's Aviation Art Society which Joe was a member of will be exhibiting work next month at the museum dedicated to his memory. Joe was inspired by Charles Lindbergh.

It reminds me of a painting that hung on
my Grandfather's office wall for years....

That one didn't include a portrait of
Lindberg, but it was a vertical image
about 2' wide by 3' tall of a complicated
sky with clouds and w-a-y up at the top
was this tiny little aircraft, totally
dwarfed by the immense firmament!!!!

It was entitled: "We", which was the name of
his book about the flight.....

Oh, and it looks as if you've gotten the light
just right (again...)

Finished this one today. Though not considered to be as good as other designs like the Albatros, the Pfalz was definitely one of the best looking machines.


Pfalz DIII, D.4114/17, Kest 8 (Home defence) late 1917-1918.

Thanks guys Dan, I decided about 20 years back to have a much closer look at WW1 types and the great war in general. It's a fascinating era of flight with its Zeppelins, Aces and villains. There were some very handsome machines too from that period, the Pfalz being considered by many as being the prettiest of them all. Aside from that I had an half decent 1/32 model that I bought of ebay last year.

An almost forgotten heroin of the air Harriet Quimby was the first American woman to get a pilot's license 1911 and the first woman to fly across the English Channel 1912.
As her flight across the Channel coincided with the loss of the Titanic she didn't receive the media coverage she deserved.
After only 11 months of flying Harriet Quimby was killed in a flying accident when along with her passenger she was thrown from her aircraft at an airshow.

As it's 100 years since her epic flight and her being quite a good looking girl and the fact that MAVAS (Manchester Aviation Art Society) are doing an exhibition next month on pioneering flights I thought I'd do a little tribute to the lady. It's quite a small piece, about A3 and is painted in oil. I've tried to do it in a period style, sort of sepia and art nouveau ish. All comments are very welcome, thanks for looking. No title for it yet.
