We were going to go (hadn't decided on the Sat or Sun), but we've now decided not to go Saturday :)) :))
We normally get there later and I just get the feeling it'll be sold out, and my mum will NOT view from out side (she needs facilities ;) =)) =)) ) so if we do go, it'll be the Sunday.

On a "normal" Duxford air show day we're always at the back of the car park as it is, and the year RIAT was cancelled we were in a field half a mile away. So I dread to think what it'll be like, unless the novelty has worn off :)) :)) but mum doesn't want to risk it.

In light of what Duxford has said [written] in the past and been quite robust in their stance of not booking 558 I wonder why the change of heart. Have the TVST been building bridges or do Duxford think time may getting short to have her appear?

Whatever it will make a lot of people happy to see her there.

Perhaps the powers that be have lowered the price considerably!

Duxford always felt that they could get more aircraft for the cost of the Vulcan and of course they can fill the airfield without needing the "VULCAN EFFECT."

Perhaps this is also the beginning of the IWM @ Duxford paving the way for their 'bid' for XH558 post flight?

At least they are showing an interest - albeit a bit late and surely out of the blue!!!

After all, XH558 is a genuine Warbird ie it was used in anger....

A. Where would they put her?

B. Why would they want a second Vulcan?

Because the HLF said she had to end up there ?

No one is saying (so far) but this change of heart from the IWM Duxford is a little puzzling.

In the end I still think that Brunty is the most logical retirement home for XH558.

That is an old wives tale, I think she has to end her time in a recognised aviation museum, but I don't think they were that specific! [-x

Oh yes they were :p :p I have the pdf of the HLF's first (declined) and second (approved) grant applications from the VTTST. Freely available to all under the 'Freedom of Information Act'

I quote: At the end of its flying life, it would be transferred to the Imperial
War Museum’s collection at Duxford for display and taxi run demonstrations.
Links with Duxford were already being forged.

If anyone wants the full HLF application transcript drop me a line.

Now that is interesting because Dr Bob told me himself it had to be a National Museum.

Now I have no idea what a NATIONAL museum is, Duxford -Cosford - Hendon? - they all have a Vulcan [not to mention how would 558 get into most of them unless they cut the wings off] and why would they want 2. To be honest I can't see that the HLF can dictate she is to go a specific place unless that place agreed with them before hand.

I was always led to believe Duxford didn't want her, and they are getting rid of unauthentic airframes and lets face whilst it may upset some 558 is not authentic. Yes they can put the instruments back so she looks it but they won't replace 10 miles or whatever it was of mine laying cabling they took out. I do believe they would be allowed under the HLF terms to build their own museum which is what the Ve3 doc is all about.

Dave you know the answer is a definite no - I do not gamble. I am just quoting verbatim what the HLF said to finally approve the VTTST's bid for a grant and what their conditions were for its approval.

It is very strange, imo, that Duxford SUDDENLY get very interested in XH558. My quote is copied directly from the HLF's website, after a Freedom Of Information request was made. Not by me I hasten to add but from an impeccable Aviation Forum.

If you have better info please publish it here. ;)

If I had any say I would say that XH558 would/must go to Brunty.

ME , I intend to go for the first time to Duxford on the Saturday , where is the mound & what time do gates open ?
Looking at 558s appierences she is supposed to fly at Southport but no current confirmation + the proposed Woodford flyover, again no confirmation.

Very puzzling ,

Look out for the little bald guy with a name badge =)) :))
