Avro Anson Mk.I close to flight

Postby Nuuumannn » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:59 pm

Hello Everyone,

The Mossie project here in NZ is getting quite a bit of attention of late, meanwhile this Anson Mk.I seems to have slipped below the radar, at least overseas anyway. These are pictures of Anson Mk.I MH120 in the hangar where I work here in New Zealand undergoing reassembly prior to its first flight. It's decorated as K6183 of 206 Sqn. The standard of restoration is outstanding and has to be seen to be believed.

MH120 saw service with the RAAF and was the last Mk.I to fly; from 1962, when wooden winged Anson Is were grounded in Australia, this was refitted with a metal wing from a C.19. Note that it's also fitted with the very early style of windscreen.

Here is a picture taken of it in Australia in 1991 dressed as Col Roscoe Turner's Boeing 247 for a 1980s TV programme.

I'll post more pictures once it's finished.

Well, today MH120 flew its first post restoration flight and it looked fantastic in the air! Lovely to hear those Cheetahs growling away. I didn't get any pics of it flying, but there'll be plenty of time for that later.

Here are some I took today (18th here in Kiwiland) after its second flight for the day.
