'London' Airspace Under RAF Control

Postby 34053 » Fri Jul 13, 2012 1:38 pm

From midnight tonight (and for the duration of the London Olympics) the Airspace over London ('Prohibited Zone' and beyond ('Restricted Zone') will be under the control of the Royal Air Force:

With a fair amount of input from the existing authority! ;)

Very interesting to see that Sky managed to title Stu Athas piece as a Wing Commander, I can just remember him at that rank and it's a long time ago! ;)

As pointed out in the report by Group Captain Rich Jacob, all UK/London airspace is 'controlled' by the RAF for security reasons anyway. This is merely a change of emphisis and a concentration of resources. As XPL says, the normal personnel will operate the ATCs for continuity because they know their own particular equipment and procedures, but probably the RAF will liaise with them on site directly rather than on the other end of a phone.

"Lovely" is a mite feminine for a blokey bloke, a touch Julian and Sandy, especially when mixed with "very nice". :ymdevil:
