Facebook, Twitter, Newsletters... The info is out there. If, like many, you do not subscribe to one or indeed any of the them, be thankful that those who are able to pass the info on, DO.
Iconic is a great place for information and it does not always come from any of the sites mentioned above. Some people can get and share info and do so regularly ;)

I personally think that sustaining that amount of income with 558 sitting the hangar for most of that time is a damned fine achievement and her supporters should be proud of themselves. :ymapplause:

With four days to go it is likely to be close but not close enough. I am sure though that the Trustees have a contingency plan.. Perhaps the extra needed will be found down the back of Eddie F's sofa - yet again. ;)

I do hope so though... :D I want to see her fly again and also to see why the new paint job/colour scheme has proved to be so controversial! Especially to a former and very keen XH558 supporter to whit - Damian B.

The take on colour schemes always amuses me. For eg: It would appear some are happy to see 6 C130s in different colours at airshows where as I would prefer to see 6 different a/c. They also bang on about authentic schemes yet love Miss Demeanour...

There's no doubt a lot of effort and hard work went into 558 and of course she looks better, but I still think she has lost some character.

Someone has just posted this on Facebook.

Vulcan on take has just had a number 2 engine failular and there was smoke from the engine described as an "Wet Start smoke" the aircraft decided shut down on the parallel and wait to be towed in. I have just been listening to it on my scanner after a loud bang was heard as the engines spooled up.

Hope everything is OK. Will keep an eye on FB etc for further news.

EDIT 1

From Facebook
Further new Doncasters runway is closed now for 30 mins the tower controller quote "Yes, Thomson91W The runway will be closed for around 30 mins as when the Vulcan engine explode there a bit on pieces everywhere" So two commercial aircraft now in the hold at the FNY at Doncaster one has said in 10 mins if there is no more news he will go the East midlands.

EDIT 2

From Twitter.
Crew and aircraft are safe. XH558 will be returned to hangar for fault investigation by engineers. Await further updates.

Thanks for posting that Danf. I was following her progress on Twitter etc. No mention of the word catastrophic from them and I sincerely hope this is not the case.

Latest from VTST

Engine Failure Update

XH558 was scheduled to take off at noon on May 28th for a crew currency and display training flight. Just after the start of the take-off roll, she experienced problems with two of her Olympus engines. The crew immediately shut all engines down and everyone is safe. At this stage, we don't have any further information but we will keep supporters informed via Twitter (@XH558), Facebook (Vulcan XH558) and the news section (here) of the charity's website (www.vulcantothesky.org).

Unfortunately, this means that she will not be able to fly for at least two weeks, although we will not know exactly how long rectification will take until the problem has been thoroughly investigated.

We will provide further updates when we know more.

Many thanks for supporting Vulcan XH558

I wish them well in their endeavours

All depends on collateral damage if any -

How many serviceable engines are left? I thought 2 but my memory is a bit flaky

I thought there were 3 serviceable ones, due to 1 being down because of the metal particles in the oil.

Edit due to grammatical error.

I think they've used 2 - the debris and the corrosion found with the borascope [sp] however not sure if one or either have been cleared for further use.

Update from Facebook

Vulcan XH558

Engine Damage Update.
The failure occurred yesterday in the two port side engines (1 & 2) on the ground as the aircraft was easing towards full power at the start of her take-off roll. She is now back in her hangar where the technical team will investigate the problem. Our initial thought is that the symptoms are very much like those experienced when something is ingested by an engine so we will be investigating all possible sources. We would like to thank Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (RHADS) for their immediate assistance and professionalism yesterday. We should have a more detailed report for everyone fairly soon.
