Some old Victors!!

Postby MOD » Wed May 23, 2012 8:50 pm

I wish I had taken more photos of these iconic 'V' bombers turned tankers. Together with the Vulcan, the Victor must be one of the most photogenic aircraft designs ever - OK OK Concorde might just have the edge there. ;)

These are shots form the 80s, and possibly one or two from the 90s, but I am still looking through my slide collection ;)

Thanks for posting those Ian (I'm going back for another look) :ymapplause:

Edit: You seem to prefer 55 Sqdn ;)

Superb Ian - as you say memories. The first shot - where would that be as I have a similiar shot at Bournemouth in 84 but I cant ident the Victor in my shot. I note one of them is at Boscombe with the Brabazon hanger in the background.

Thanks for stirring the memories, great shots! I grew up in St.Albans and Handley Page was just four miles to the south and I can remember how awestruck I was when I first saw the Victor coming over. I couldn't get over how many wheels there were on the undercarriage in contrast to the normal fare of Hastings' with their one massive (to my young eyes) mainwheel per side. I can also remember drawing pics of Victors because they looked so different to anything else around.

Hi Richard I hope you got my pm. We were certainly stood very close when that shot and yours were taken, although at different times perhaps. After some discussion I plump for Brize as I have never been to Bournemouth (at least not back in the 80s) and as you've not done Waddo then as Brize had a Tanker themed photocall it is my best suggestion.

If anyone else can throw any light on this Richard and I would be very grateful.

Thanks Ian - I did get your PM - it is a bit of a mystery as to the location of the shot in question. I too think it may be BZN as it seems to tie in.
