Oh but the story behind these sparse shots gets better.... X(

I dropped in to WAVE on the way to Helmsley (NYMoors) just on the off-chance. I looked on John's board in the cafe and there were a couple of Sentrys/Sentinels and Shadows due back in. I saw a woman with an airband scanner outside who said that the BBMF and The Reds were also due in some time after 13.00.

After 2 hours waiting (with Mrs Mod tapping her feet in that impatient way that women are born with :p ) this lady (who was dressed in USAF pilot's clothing) said that the Reds were joining the circuit and would immediately go into a practice display routine.

Well it looked quite a good display, but it was outside the range of my 200mm Canon plus 1.4 extender as it was taking place over RAF Scampton. X( I also saw the Dak in the far distance... :((

She didn't even blush when she then said that she must have been tuned to ATC Scampton and NOT ATC Waddo as she first thought. :((

So I took some shots of XM607 and this Beechcraft thingy..

There's something about 607 she's very like 655 in that she is very photogenic - a bit rough up close tho'.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Yes the upper surfaces are very 'weather worn' also like 655 - before MaPs got their hands on it. ;)

That is criminal of the MOD. XM607's astonishing missions in May 1982 are quite rightly being celebrated 30 years later but what about the old girl herself ?? I wonder if her crew visit her very often? I bet that Martin never thought he would be making a living flying a Vulcan 30 years later... :ymapplause:

XM607 was the first Vulcan I got close to. September 1982 RAF Finningley Battle of Britain display. Lined up with a Victor, VC10 and a Nimrod.

Thank heavens there are enthusiastic amateurs willing to give their time to preserving our aviation heritage - as no one else seems inclined to.

That is a GREAT shot of the old girl Ian :ymapplause:
I don't suppose you have a different angle to include the Victor etc? :D

Like you, I take my hat off to those that do such stirling work to keep our aviation heritage alive :ymapplause:

Only for 'official visits' such as 44Sqn reunion last week that we went to, or publicly purposes. As she's parked on the live side of the airfield it takes some arranging in advance to get across the run way for civvies.
