Brize Norton today..

Postby MOD » Fri May 11, 2012 8:22 pm

With a good 'Met' and the possibility of seeing Voyager and a VC10 I decided to go to Brize.

The weather was pretty good but 'Sod's Law' dictated that as soon as Voyager appeared the sun disappeared.

Base circuit-bashers and visitors included:

TriStars ZD953 and ZE705.
C17 ZZ175
Hercules C130J ZH885 . Swedish C130 H/L 845.
Chinook
Boeing 767 Omni Air
VC10 K3 (ex East African Airways) ZA148 'G'
A330 Voyager.

I hope you enjoy these from Brize today... I certainly did as I have not seen BZN so busy for a long time.

The A400M shed is coming along nicely ... 28metres high!!

A few reasonable shots there I suppose! :p

That L-1011 TriStar wing is a work of art. My favourite shots are of the underneath of its high aspect ratio wing which is fitted with an incredible number of high-lift devices/flaps etc. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

The DC-10, to which the L-1011 is most
often compared, is a Flying Motor Coach!

The TriStar is an AIRCRAFT!

Lockheed deserved better out of their last
PAX effort, I think, and those who flew her
and maintained her LOVED her..........

That's all I've got...........

So few left flying :((

Just dont understand why they chose the name Voyager for the new tanker though......... :(

I am sure they could have come up with something more suitable ;)

Agreed, its not very original and doesn't especially suit the aircraft's role either - its a support aircraft! =))

Let me know when you plan to visit Ace. Brize is set to get very busy. Loads of crew training going on and the VC10s are still very much in evidence.. ;)

Ian

Jiggy (Kev) I have a bone (no not a B-1) to pick with you!!! I spent ages cleaning my camera's sensor as I noticed that there were obvious dust motes on the screen as I uploaded the Brize photos yesterday. I used a few digipads but they were still there - which is unusual as these normally work a treat - (digipad.co.uk - I don't know who is behind this site but a donation used to be made to the LPG from each purchase). Eventually I realised that the spots were actually on my monitor screen and were in fact spots of RED WINE that you had caused me to expectorate.

Expect to hear from my lawyers (Sue, Grabbit and Runn) any day now.

I was just wondering how well or
poorly regarded is the TriStar by
the RAF.......

VC-10 will, of course, be missed
but what of the L-1011??????

I think Ian is the first Brit I've heard
expressing admiration for her!

Ain't She Sweet?????????

Thanks guys. ;)

@Danfth: When the RAF start scrapping them I am sure a lot of people will suddenly realise what an iconic aircraft they are about to lose. I hope Dave Walton is also a Lockheed L-1011 fan :)
