Jaguar XX734

Postby Varcs » Mon Apr 30, 2012 4:48 pm

Took a trip to the Gatwick Aviation Museum on Saturday. They have a Jaguar, but it needs restoration badly. A sad sight. Hope it can be saved.

I dunno, Mister V.........

Looks a little "beyond" to me....

Might be better to strip it of anything
useful so that others might live on :(

A V-E-R-Y Sad Photograph :((

That really is an awful photograph :( Shame when they are left to get in that state. Reminds me of the A1 Lightning :(

Wash your mouth out with soap and go and stand in the NAUGHTY corner! :p

I think that is well past recovery, maybe a few parts could be used on other Jags but that is such a shame, who is responsible? :-o

Varcs: It looks a bit like one of those modern metallic sculptures where someone has modelled a Jag out of old dustbin lids and bits of household scrap. X(

In fairness, its not the owners fault! they wanted to restore it when they got it but its not been lucky enough to get what it needs

This is what GAM say about it.
This airframe arrived as a virtual "Hulk" and has had little or no attention given to it. It has been used to conduct explosive damage and battle damage repair. It has also had at least one cockpit fire. There are large holes and pieces of the airframe missing. XX734 was stored for some while on its belly and shows the signs. It is almost irrecoverable unless some components can be found for it.

This aircraft first flew on the 5th of August 1974, it was loaned to the Indian Air Force in 1980 as an iterim measure before they received their aircraft. It was serialed JI014 whilst operating with the Indians.

Currently XX734 is looking for a volunteer(s) to help restore her to a reasonable condition? At the moment she is in a very sorry state, but with lots TLC (and spares, lots of spares!) would soon be looking fair again.

Personally I would think that restoration would be beyond economic sense! :-o

Scrap her and put any money raised from that to use looking after more expeditious projects! ;)

Well volunteered Charles, when is she to be moved to Wellesbourne and when do you hope to have the necessary work completed? :-o

Topic resurrection! FYI XX734 has moved from Gatwick to the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection at Old Sarum Airfield, Salisbury. She's in a sorry state and it looks like a new wing will be needed. I'm hoping to have the ERUs out of the outboard pylons to tart them up at least.
