If they're NOT flying how can the article state that their is NO LOSS OF OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY? :-o

Look fellows of the forum

Tis quite simple

The AWACs will meet their untimely end just as the nimrods did.

However all is not lost

The RAF will be getting some new fuel efficent prop driven aircraft about one suadrons worth. Low cost airfields are now going to make acome back. Sonic booms will be a thing of the past. (yes the spitfires)

Now to address the AWACS issues Steptoe and Son have already agreed the cost for dismantling the AWACS and the shackletons are being recalled. Dougal at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry along with all the other preserved aircraft will be defending our airspace in time for the General Election in 2035.

Don't forget the Camels and SE5s as fighter escort.

I here on good authority that this issue is already resolved and has been for a couple of days.

Jolly good but I'd still like to know just how having a "TEMPORARILY" grounded fleet of aircraft fails to hit its operability! :-o

May be it was the media blowing this out of all propotion. Possibly fed the information by the same numpty that caused the fuel mayhem the other week. Or we are being prepared/conditioned by numpties to see the RAF run down even further.

It can't have been more than two days, I didn't even notice =)) =)) just assumed they were using 02 as I can't see them when they use that end.

I definitely had NATO 30, 31 & 32 this week at various times.

Perhaps they were filling the gap! :-o

Which is possibly explains the term 'No loss of operational ability'.

You know what jurnos are like, they don't know one end of an A/C from the blade of a wood working tool!!

I was thinking more along the lines of NOT KNOWING THEIR ARSE FROM THEIR ELBOW! ;)

For those of you who didn't bother to read to the end of the article, the "official" explanation is ~

The spokeswoman stressed that the Sentry is one of a range of aircraft capable of conducting surveillance and other options, including five Sentinel R1 aircraft, are being utilised.

I know there can always be arguments about the specific capabilities of each aircraft type, but it seems fairly clear what was meant by the "operational capability" statement.

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

I still cannot believe that the role normally carried out by 7x E-3 AWACs (stands for Airborne Early Warning and CONTROL btw ) can easily be covered by 5 Sentinel R1s - which the MOD have already noted as being surplus to UK requirements. :-o

If it is so then the MOD bean-counters will be rubbing their hands in glee... :(

My post was tongue in cheek but the more you look at what the MOD has done recently then the less confidence one has in this Government and the MOD 'Yes men'...
