Newbie - some scanned slides

Postby FTW » Sun Jan 08, 2012 5:46 pm

Afternoon
In among my welcome messages was a request to see some scanned slides , If anyone wants more I have several thousand stashed away and I am in the slow process of scanning them. Most were taken by me some were traded with fellow enthsuiasts.

Most regulars on here would have their own answers about that, but pleasingly many lists overlap and define the true classics!

Harrier, Buccaneer, Canberra and then we head towards things like the Constellations and Dakotas, the list is ENDLESS though! ;)

Early-on, I think we tried to define the
term "Iconic" as it relates to aircraft, but
we failed MISERABLY!!!!!!!!

I believe we have, however, succeeded
in educating ourselves and one-another
because Love and Enthusiasm are both
contageous......

There is a lot of collective knowledge on
here, and it's the thing that gives this
"Forum" its LIFE!

Hi Again

"Failed miserably" - I think you are too hard on yourselves

For me it's the Lightning, Phantom, V-Bombers, Century series, some of the X planes, Constellation early jets Venom, Vampire, Sea Vixen to name but a few and of course the venerable Chipmunk whis i had my fiorst flight in as a 13 year old Air Cadet. Then there are the MiGs. i once stood on nthe back of a Mig17 to photograph a MiG15 and Yak 17 and Yak 23 - errr emm thee are so many!

When I went through OASC in the 60's you were measured to see if you would fit into a Lightning from then on I was smitten again. I have been "smit" many time since then!

Oh and dont forget the Hunter, Harrier Buccaneer, T33, C130, C135, TSR2............... I give up

Later........... Sherlock has started

HI

Yes thyat ism XX900 in 215Sq markings

Scanner - I looked at many but on the basis that once I had scanned them all i would never use it again so i opted for a very cheap one from Argos - it's an AGFA AFS3 cost less that £70 Ther are many which are v expensive

It does what i want and can create 16Mb slides! - but i dont usually scn them tomn the highest resolution. All i want to do is scan a pile of 35mm slides and negs then parcel them all away seal them up and pack the boxes with silica gel so my son can sell them for a fortune later:-))

The biggest probelm is dust on the slides - Im convinced they are magnetic - must be static electricity attracting the dust.

Pictures i just scan on the HP scanner printer copier we have

Im not looking for super quality scans

I used to watch a slide auction web site called Premier Slides and some of the slides went for well over £50.00 each . I dread tio think what my collection just might be worth but at a modest £5 each its well over £40k!! So my wife has been advised taht if the house catches fire forgrt the silver just grab the slide collection and run

Hope that all helps

Well, it looks like a very sad C 47, but I guess it can't be that easy.
