Happy 76th Dakota

Postby Mayfly » Sat Dec 17, 2011 10:25 am

Today is the 76th anniversary of the first flight of the Dakota in 1935 made by Douglas Aircraft Company so I thought it was worth a few coloured pics in the banner. With few basic changes since the early days it is certainly a work horse of the aviation industry and worth a mention, seeing service in many different guises.

I'd been meaning to thank you for the wonderful
headers that showed up recently, Pam.....

I really think you've outdone yourself, and they
are truly Bee-Yoo-Tee-Full!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if you remember me mentioning
this, but I've been told that my first flight on an
aircraft was on a Northeast Airlines DC-3 from
Bangor to Boston in 1951 when I was an infant!

My Dad said I slept through the whole thing :D

I like to do my planning retroactively!

Thanks Dan4th - keeps me out of mischief for a while ;)

Edit to say it's all down to the generosity of IA members and their willingness to share photos. :ymapplause:

I know I've mentioned this before, but I find it interesting that hardly anyone went out to watch the first flight and no known photos exist of it, because obviously no one there knew that it would become the icon it is today :)
