VTTS club (East Anglia Region) visit to Mildenhall

Postby Snapper » Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:06 pm

With grateful thanks to Jocelyn (655MaPS) and Lee Gosling of the VTTS club I enjoyed an excellent day out at Mildenhall airbase last week. Its the home of several iconic aircraft and two of them we got to see close up and personal - A Lockheed C130 Hercules and a Boeing KC135 Stratotanker. Both of these aircraft types are over 50 years old!!!! AND they plan to continue the KC135 until 2040.

Photography was restricted to shots of the two aircraft we were viewing ONLY. The shot of the Stratotanker flying was taken from outside the base through the bus window as we departed.

I hope you enjoy taking a look. I even managed to get myself included in the group photo!

Glad you enjoyed yourselves :ymapplause:

Thank You Clive!

I'm very familiar with the KC-135 as Bangor is
home to the 101st Air Refueling Wing, aka the
"Maineiacs"......

Never flown in one as some get to do, but I
have had tours and briefings over the years.

Oh, and I'm told that some of the boom
operators' hand signals can be somewhat.....
um......Colo(u)rful!

Glad you enjoyed the visit Clive, and thanks for the pics ! Great aircraft, and both with a future as our cousins tend to stick with what works, bless them :D

AH!

The Herc, the BUFF and the Stratotanker!

All from roughly the same period......

And then there's also the P3 Orion from
that time frame.....

Do you still see those "over there"?????

And the C-5 is no spring chicken, either......
