Not sure if this is the correct place for this but anyway I was driving home today in lincoln when I came across a nimrod on broadgate on the back of a lorry! Was it off to be preserved or scrapped?

I don't know I would assume it was the last one from Waddington that hadn't flown for a couple of years I believe it had been 'Christmas Tree'd'' perhaps Old Rigger knows.

HHA facilitated the move and continued perservation of the front section of XW665 and it will be located in the Speyer Aviation Museum in Germany. a long day getting her loaded and secured. A complicated lift with two cranes and a very forward C of G. She was cut just forward of the intakes at frame 23. a sad day but at least some of the aircraft is destined for preservation. the remainder of the aircraft was being cut up over the next few days for scrap.

Oooo why a German museum? Is that because no-one wanted her here or is there a particular reason for that museum?

We were contracted to source / supply and organise the logistics to move a Nimrod cockpit section to the museum in Speyer, so we did.

Thanks for the update, HHA.

A shame it is only the cockpit, but much better than scrapping it all.

You may be interested to know that XV250 at Elvington will be fired up for The French in York on October 19th.
On the 20th October about 20 aircraft including Rafales, Xingu's, Tucanos and by special request the BBMF Lancaster (BBMF usually clses down at the end of this month) plus others will pass over York Minster at 12:30 whilst a full RAF parade marches past the Minster. It is the inauguration of the French Air Force Memorial. the first French memorial in an English Cathedral. Many hundrads will attend including WWll veterans.

I'm new on this site and they won't let me post anything, but i wanted folks to know about these events!

Pictures didn't come out at all due to the placement of the sun!!!!! I couldn't move my office for the day ;) .

good turn out for the french though

1 x typhoon
1 x Dassault Rafale
as a pair

8 x tuccanos in formation

4 x Embraer EMB 121 Xingu in formation

1 x Lancaster :D

1 x spitfire (although not with the Lanc ??????) I missed that as it was 5 mins after the rest, I heard it so think it was a spit.

I will play with photoshop to see if i can do anything with the photos.

The spitfire wasn't from the BBMF :)
Was probably the 2 seater from Waddington as he was buzzing around all day yesterday.

I saw the Lanc leave Coningsby, and the 4 Xingus (or Pingus as my mum has decided they are now called =)) =)) ) arrive Wednesday and they passed over Coningsby on route to Cranwell Thursday. The Rafale passed over really high too.

The Rafale was due to over night at Coningsby but did a round trip from it's French base in the end 'oh what a shame', :p I was tied up with family matters so wouldn't have made it anyway. :(

Indeed, the Rafale flew from its base at St.Dizier and did the trip in one leap! ;)
