Yes, it's a pretty technical method. Sort of a paint-by-numbers in a way. Thanks for the link Mayfly, that's pretty impressive! There's many times I wish I could do that! It's a VERY different skill set though and I couldn't do that to save my life. That would be much more related to traditional painting.
Mod - I checked with the pilot and August 8 was the day this took place. There was also heavy action on the 18th. He didn't remember any orders not to attack.
