I could certainly put together a bit of a sample on how it's done. This would be a good project for it since I've posted step by step progress already. I'll see what I can do :D

Brilliant Len, that Tiger looks very good so far, can we have a link to a HI RES version please!

Will do! The high-res isn't quite ready yet though :( With all the smoke, and grass it is taking quite some time to render and it's only going to get worse as I add more.

Here's a slightly higher res one: http://www.actionart.ca/ForumPics/TBTest6.jpg

That's about 1/10th the final res.

Very nice Len, just one point;

Would the rocket motors still be burning?

That's a good question. I think so. It is relatively close to the launch point. They usually (but not always) fired them from about 2000 feet. Just guessing by some of the footage I've looked at they seemed to burn most of that distance. Just a guess though! I'll confirm with the pilots.

I'm curious to see if you wind up using
a little "Greenery" Camoflage!

Getting REALLY nice!

And the process is fascinating!

Here's the latest. I still have all the wear and tear to add and quite a bit of touch up especially on the zimmerit edges. I bit left to do on the Typhoon too but I think it's getting close.

I tried for a while to use some vegetation as camouflage but I wasn't able to make it look very good that close and ended up not too happy with it. Hope I picked a number that's not going to come back and bite me.

Okay, just bear in mind this is my
first impression::::::::::::

The rockets look as if you've made
them blurry to indicate speed.......

This might make sense in some ways,
but earlier they were the first thing
the viewer looked at....

The "Focus" of the whole scene.....

I think you may have lost a little
"Drama" by blurring them.

Once again, a little poetic license
for effect.....

Just my first thoughts.

Otherwise, it's getting VERY EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think so D4th?

I think it's the dark smoke behind them and the dust that has 'blended' them in more with the surroundings.

I love it AA still very jealous of your talent!!

I really have struggled with that. Actually, the rockets were blurred before to show speed but I've added the smoke from the tank muzzle blast and that has really changed the feel. It really takes away from the rockets being the center of attention but it really adds to the excitement of the tank firing back.

I don't know what to think. Maybe I'll post two versions and see what the consensus is :)

Any yes, definitely looking for opinions! :D

Hmmmm.... not sure I would go that far!! :)) :)) :))

I think 'changed the feel' is exactly the right terminology - I suppose it's a privilege of seeing the artwork develop.

I think it's great. Just a small observation, but I thought the tank looked a bit too clean; unless, of course, the crew had washed it that morning.

:)) They had a high pressure washer attached on the left (you can't see it).

I forgot to mentioned that wear and tear is the next step. It won't look quite so new then ;)

Great pic getting better every time i look .My one and only observation is on the end of the barrel there are the flame-smoke dispensing slots but why aren't they doing what they were designed for on the real thing IE the flame from the gun fire goes sideways out of them and from distant memories of watching large weapons fire so does smoke otherwise you had around 5 to 10 foot of flame from the barrel supposedly to aid in hiding the location of the weapon also to dispense that blinding flash at night,Seen from the perspective of someone who observed many times over 15 years of heavy weapon fire.Or did i just get used to the flame spread & in the end lack of smoke from modern cordite.

Thanks all! Hope I can actually finish it off next weekend. Lots of fine details left to do.

Like Hungry Haggis says, the muzzle smoke is a real challenge. The muzzle brake should be sending a lot of smoke to the left and right out of the slots but I didn't want to cover the rocket trails and rockets completely. I'm still searching for some really good reference photos of similar gun blasts to see what needs to be done with it.

Overall, this has been a really fun project :) Thanks for all the help.

Just a thought........

When the cannon is fired, wouldn't all the
fire and smoke exit the barrel first and the
vents a split-second later?

Just trying to be helpful :D

Still think the ROCKETS need to be the focus........

Total accuracy is all well and good, but poetic
license has its merits.

I have personally never let the facts get in the
way of a Good Story!

I'll have to think it over for a day or two and see if there is a good solution. It has to look good without being obviously wrong. I'll fiddle with a few variations and see what happens... :)

Like you say, I would like for the rockets to be more the center of attention than they are now somehow without losing the muzzle blast of the tank.

Perhaps I should back up a few microseconds to where the shell is just exiting the barrel by a foot or two. Don't know..
