ACCURACY suggests that the TWO RP3s would have left either together or only a few milliseconds apart due to the cordite propellant being ignited at different speeds by the electrical igniter at the end of the "pigstail" which was the nickname for the electrical connection to the aircraft. ;)

Fantastic work!
Though I've never dabbled in CG art work I know how difficult it is and the number of hours needed to produce something of this quality. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

I've heard that's a great book! Let me know what you think. I might get it if I get some time to read.

And thanks Terry, I'm working on it this weekend so hopefully I'll have something to show for it ;)

It's a long way from finished though.

Len the book is a great read, covers the time that the event in your picture happened!

Finally got something done this weekend :)

I've been working mostly on the grass/fields/road/trees. There's still quite a bit to do but looks more filled out now. The road of course needs more variation and some signs of travel.

The tank needs lots of work yet. The vegetation is always tough but I'm glad some of the hard part is done. #:-S

There's been a bit of progress this weekend. Obviously there's a long way to go yet but it's starting to look like something :) I'm procrastinating on painting the camo on the tank, it'll be tricky to get it right :(

There will of course be some more fire/explosions/smoke etc.

It just keeps getting better and better Len!

As for painting the camouflage on to the Tiger, in reality it was often applied by hand and by the crew themselves. The Germans used three basic colours, a reddish brown, a green and a sandy yellow colour. Usually with a base coat of the yellow and stripes or splodges of one or both of the other two on top.

Here are a few examples!

Thanks!!! I'm currently researching what color schemes were at the Falaise gap and also what number to put on there. There weren't many Tigers so I have to get it right. Since it is unknown what tank it was, I'm looking for a rather unknown but possible number. The last thing I want is to get it all done and some tank enthusiast to say "well that tank was never there, it was..."

Thanks for the pics!

Len, the Germans often used branches from trees as additional camouflage, if placed in the right position it would mask the turret number and possibly solve your problem! ;)

Thanks! Here's my first shot at the camo paint. Let me know what you think :)

Also added some dust kicked up from the tank firing. I still have to add the smoke from the muzzle.

I can't comment on the markings because I have no idea what they should look like, but the dust adds so much life to it :ymapplause: It looks brilliant.

Thanks! It is starting to look more lively isn't it :) Now for some muzzle smoke, canon hits from the Typhoon etc.

I tried to post a reference photo I was using but for some reason it wouldn't take it. Anyway it's #221 2./Schwere SS Pz. Abt. 101, July 1944, Normandy on this page (most of the way down).

Great stuff AA.

Has the Typhoon just flown through that smoke almost directly behind it? Swirling wing vortices perhaps - if so? Or am I just making things too hard?

When you have the time how about a little commentary (in laymen's terms) on how you achieve such images? I wouldn't have a clue where to start..

You guessed exactly what I was going to do!! Yes, there will be a swirl in the smoke :) It is something that I have to do right at the end though.

I could certainly put together a bit of a sample on how it's done. This would be a good project for it since I've posted step by step progress already. I'll see what I can do :D
