Another Typhoon Art Project - WIP

Postby ActionArt » Sun Apr 17, 2011 1:41 am

I finally got my act together and started another Typhoon project. I found 2 RAF pilots that flew the rocket firing Typhoons and did plenty of attacks on armoured vehicles.

This one is attacking a Tiger tank in the battle of the Falaise gap. I couldn't resist the opportunity to do one like this! Should be fun (but a lot of work).

Here's a rough (very rough) layout. I've been working on the tank model (obviously it has no paint yet). Of course there will eventually be a proper road, grass, trees, fires, other vehicles etc. and a second rocket from the Typhoon.

Comments welcome - cheers! :D

That 60lb rocket looks superb!

Keep up the good work ;)

Thanks! It was sure interesting talking with this pilot. The tank actually fired back at him with the main gun! He said they were in the area for a while and it must have given the gunner time to line up the big turret. He wasn't hit but it was rather unnerving. The results of this pass aren't know, he didn't stick around to take a look.

Art::::::::::

A Really EXCITING piece of work here!

The human brain just logically finishes the
sequence to the inevitable POW!

Having just enough knowledge about such things
to be a little dangerous, I will ask this question::::::::::

Have you considered flopping the image so the
aircraft is coming from the left? My "GUT" feeling
is this would in a subtle way to put just a squink more
emphasis on the aircraft, at least for right-handed
people......

Also, now would be the time to do it before you get
to lettering, etc.

I don't know -- just trying to be helpful......

Nice to see you back on!

Like D4th says, you can almost hear the inevitable "POW" as the rocket hits!

Very good work, looking forward to the updates!
NB; Any negative comments I post about the Vulcan are posted SOLELY to wind Gregg up!

Okay, Dave, let's hear YOUR sound effect!

I personally think "POW!" is entirely sufficient....

"WHAM!" might be slightly better......

Actually, an actual GERMAN sound effect might
be best....

What would the Jerries use, anyway??????????

Anyone????????

Yes, but both of those are launching sounds, NOT the sound of the impact and detonation of 60lbs of explosive!

Yep, either of the two impacts are good, the second one without the BLOODY rock music would be most representative! :ymapplause:

=)) Thanks for all the sound effects! I think I'll make a recording and find a way to sell it with the picture :D

Dan, as for swapping sides, I tried it both ways (I'll upload a sample later). It seemed more comfortable this way but that's just to me. I'd be interested what everyone thinks. I'll upload two to compare later and take a vote ;)

One reason I put it this way is that (as far as I've been told) the path people's eyes tend to follow on most any image by habit is lower left to upper right. Maybe this is nonsense, I'm not sure but it seems to work for me.

Anyway, I have to go to work right now but more later...

What I learned was that because we (in our culture)
read left to right, that the eye, even for lefties, is
trained to start on the left and go right.....

The IMPORTANT thing, though, is to go with your
gut on such matters. Rules of thumb aren't worth
a damn, and if it LOOKS good, it IS good!

"Looking" forward to an up and down comparison,
but even then, you ought to go with what YOU think
is the best way.....

While it's really a coin toss thing, now
that I see it both ways, I believe you were
right the first time.

Not that I can tell you WHY the first one
works better, it's just the way my brain is
wired, I guess........

I reserve the right to change my mind, though.....

Let's see what others think.

Either way, it's a nice piece of work, Art!

I think the top one - but is it because it is the original and we have have had a couple of days to get used to it?
